Youtube video essayists will unironically keep spinning "old thing bad old thing scarryyyY!" even if it's framed as a "positive". The only reason mario 64 gets framed in a positive light is a combo of it being bing bing wahoo and inoffensive, and the fact that a few years ago the memes about how weirdly ominous some levels are when you stop focusing on the gameplay itself which kicked off the video essayists starting to make vids like this because it's something they recognized people like about mario levels.
