The United States as of this time needs to stay involved with the country in order to not make sure the political situation does not devolve into something worse then Maduro's governance. This has the potential to backfire but doing nothing after removing him leaves even more things up to chance. There is also oil infrastructure that needs to be rebuilt or repaired if the average American is to see much if any benefit out of it.

It's a complex situation, but Trump seems to have a good grasp on what needs to be done. i wonder why he's so set against the nobel prize lady. ideally elections are held, we oversee them in a short amount of time and we get out.

I'm not a parent yet but I try to think of it this way:

When you Respect Somebody: This person caused me problems but in a weird way I kind of like them for it. They have power and under other circumstances they could help me with that power.
When you Don't Respect Somebody: This person doesn't have enough power to cause me problems, and therefore they don't have enough power to solve my problems.
When you Fear Somebody: This person caused me problems and I never want to see them again.

For years now, shitlibs have been in outright denial that the drug cartels even exist. It's why the Lugenpresse started putting "Narco" in snark-quotes, implying that the MAGA chuds are just imagining the beheadings, border bumrushings, and loved ones croaking on fentanyl.

(Not to mention that they benefit from it. Americans die and are replaced by their pet imports for votes, while their business buddies in Beijing get rich.)

They're still trying to change reality by "No Child"-ing hard enough at people. You'd think they'd try something other than gaslighting after the election.

The upsides are obvious. Any downsides will have to be negotiated. I doubt it will be perfect, but the people who served Maduro and all the Chavismo stuff in 2026 only did so because it was to their benefit. If we make it to their benefit to keep their dicks in their pants, that's what will happen. There are no true believers left in VZ.
