Now, my big question: If they wanted to cut the head off the snake, why not take the vice president and the other major military leaders too? Otherwise, I don't think this will actually succeed if they wanted to place in a new capitalist government that is receptive to them (e.g. Guaido until he lost favor with everyone by being a fucking idiot) unless a plan is actually in place.

Two reasons
1. They had a legal justification for getting Maduro -- he's going to face federal charges in New York.
2. Something tells me everyone else left in the Maduro admin -- sorry, the admin formerly known as the Maduro admin -- will be willing to play ball with the US now.
