Buzz Aldrin has been "abandoned" and "dying" in his bed all alone.

The 95-year-old astronaut's longtime friend Steve Barber has spoken out exclusively to RadarOnline.com after seeing the "horrific" state of Aldrin's living conditions during a recent visit.

Buzz Aldrin, 95, is 'dying in his bed' all alone, according to a friend. 'It's about the saddest thing I have ever seen,' said Steve Barber

In a photo exclusively provided to Radar, the ailing space hero could be seen staring blankly inside of his dingy Los Angeles apartment, as he received oxygen support through his nose.

Aldrin, wearing a NASA T-shirt, appeared in a daze while bedridden and leaning over on a small pillow.

There was a table beside the elderly star, allowing him to reach over for a beverage or snack because he's said to be unable to move.

"He's literally just laying in a room by himself," Barber, whose known Aldrin since 2004 and visioned the Apollo 11 monument in 2018, told Radar.

Buzz Aldrin's friend claimed he's been 'abandoned' by his family.

"This is not the way that this man should be spending the last seconds of his life."

Barber admitted none of his pal's children are by his side and all the company he receives is an on-call nurse as he rapidly declines in his "horrible little apartment" following his wife Anca Faur's tragic death at age 66 earlier this year.

"There's no family, there's nothing. It's about the saddest thing I've ever seen," Barber said.

"This is not how the second man on the moon should leave the Earth for the last time. He's [part of] the first freaking crew to the moon. He could die today in that situation and that would just be horrific."

Barber noted this is especially true after President Donald Trump's signing of an executive order on December 18 calling for America's return to the moon by 2028.

Buzz Aldrin's close friend Steve Barber is concerned for his well-being, seen here in better times. He said the Lunar Module Eagle pilot on the 1969 Apollo 11 mission had been abandoned by his family.

Describing his recent visit, Barber added: "He was so disheveled about Anca. He was so sad. He goes, 'Look, I'm just so sad. I miss her so much.' And, for her credit, she took care of him the last 10 years. The reason he's still alive is because of her. She did a good job there. But she's gone. I just can't even imagine the sorrow and the pain that he's in right now. And there's no family. His family doesn't help him."

Barber insisted the ailing astronaut shouldn't have to spend his final days "living in his own filth" after all he's contributed to society.

"It looks like a college kid's apartment. There's stuff stacked up everywhere. It's just not good," he said.

"This guy should be in the nicest assisted living that's possible to mankind. He was on the first mission to another world. He's literally a national treasure. It's just not fair."

Steve Barber, who used to be Buzz Aldrin's chauffeur, said the former astronaut, aeronautical engineer and fighter pilot 'doesn't deserve to die like this.'

What's more, Barber warned, time is ticking, describing Aldrin as being "at the end" of his life.

He added: "There's all kinds of pills and stuff that he's taking. He's almost 96. I'm assuming mostly everything is failing."

"The apartment is disgusting. I was just appalled," said Barber, who tried to contact Aldrin's son after deeming the situation emergent.

"I called his son, and he's like 'look that’s the life he wanted to live. He can just stay there.' He wanted nothing to do with me, didn’t care about the situation and didn’t want to help,'" the documentary filmmaker explained before shedding light on the status of Aldrin's relationship with his three kids: James, Janice and Andrew.

"He has children, but they do nothing, and they've never done anything. They sued him. They took away all of his money, a few years ago," Barber added, referencing a 2018 legal dispute in which Andrew and Janice filed for guardianship.

At the time, Buzz's kids had claimed their father declined cognitively, however, the aeronautical engineer denied suffering a mental setback and sued his children for slander and financial misuse. James was not involved in the heated court battle.

"When they sued him seven years ago, when they shut him out of his bank account, I was just appalled. This is the guy that created you," Barber said.

While Barber alleged Buzz's offspring are "not kind people," he acknowledged the dad-of-three remains "very protective of them."

Feeling hopeless, Barber noted: "But I'm not family. I don't have power of attorney. I can't go in there and pick him up.

"I've got a guy down in San Diego who's a multimillionaire that would send a limo and we would get him in a nice place today. He's a very dear friend and has been working with Buzz for 30 years. He too is concerned.

"I've got a circle of friends who have all known him. We're all concerned, but what can we do? We're not family."

Buzz Aldrin Is 'Screwed Up' After Wife Anca Faur's Tragic Death

Buzz Aldrin's wife, Anca Faur, died at age 66 in October. 'He's so screwed up because his wife died,' Barber said.

Barber believes things took a turn for the worse after the former fighter pilot's late wife died on October 28 at age 66 after privately battling an aggressive form of cancer.

"He's so screwed up because his wife died," he said, alerting how Buzz is dying of a broken heart. "He's not well."

Despite his declining health and poor mental state, Buzz surprisingly recognized his pal Steve during their recent visit.

Recalled his friend: "He knew who I was and he said, 'I just miss Anca, I just miss her so bad.' His health has deteriorated pretty ferociously the past couple of years. When he hit 95 it really kind of fell, and then when she died [it got worse].

"He sleeps until about three, four in the afternoon. They got him up. He was on a walker. But I was there an hour before he was able to get up and see me. His cognitive abilities that day were OK, but not great. We took some pictures and hung out and had a meal. But I would say he's not in any sort functional. He can't get up. He can't drive, he can't walk. He needs help."

Buzz Aldrin has been 'abandoned' by his children, according to pal Steve Barber.

Barber, who said he has "berated" Buzz's kids for the way they've treated their dad, added: "His children have abandoned him. I want to get him out of there."

After speaking with one of Buzz's sons, Barber claimed he was told: "This is the way my dad wanted to live. This was his choice. He can live in it."

Barber recalled responding: "I'm like, are you kidding me? [Anca is] gone. You need to get on a plane and come take care of your father."

But there was "no interest," he sadly shared. "There's not a lot of love lost between father and son here."

Radar attempted to contact Buzz's children for comment but did not receive a response at time of publication.

I wish the moon landing people would just learn to fucking read. Until then, while it's sad to see age catching up with the man and family bullshit, Buzz still showed us the best way to deal with those who deny Human Greatness.

In 2018, Aldrin was involved in a legal dispute with his children Andrew and Janice and former business manager Christina Korp over their claims that he was mentally impaired through dementia and Alzheimer's disease. His children alleged that he made new friends who were alienating him from the family and encouraging him to spend his savings at a high rate. They sought to be named legal guardians so they could control his finances. In June, Aldrin filed a lawsuit against Andrew, Janice, Korp, and businesses and foundations run by the family. Aldrin alleged that Janice was not acting in his financial interest and that Korp was exploiting the elderly. He sought to remove Andrew's control of Aldrin's social media accounts, finances, and businesses. The situation ended when his children withdrew their petition and he dropped the lawsuit in March 2019, several months before the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission.
Looks like that quote from the end of the article from his son was accurate, then. This really IS how he decided to live when he chose his goldigger friends over his family.

It is though. Its about buzz aldrin, one of the supposed actors (who knows if it was even him in the suit?)
It’s about him dying alone you absolute retard. Hopefully a fate you will suffer through one day.

Anyway I guess the dude that is going to the press about this is trying to get President Trump to do something?

The problem here is, what is the actual story?

Is the "friend" lying, or are the kids lying?

If the kids are lying, Aldrin might not be saying anything out of fear of bringing his family drama out into the open and making his kids look like awful people.

I don't know, but he went through four different marriages, so I think he may have had some issues. Loosely on team kids here. He may be dying alone because he abandoned and screwed over his family repeatedly.

It’s entirely possible the kids can’t be there to take care of him because they live other places. If he won’t move and they can’t for whatever reason, that is his choice. It sounds like his much younger wife was basically a caretaker and everyone assumed she would be until he passed.

I still don’t get the money situation though. Seems like he should at least be able to get regular in-home help from all these millionaire friends.

This article is weird af.

I was gonna give you that new ✡ Emote we have but I couldn't find it
Look, assuming you really believe you ought to see stars in those pictures on the moon, here's an example from my own photos

Screenshot_20251225_184345.jpg

The white moth is illuminated by a bright light, like the lunar surface, so that's what I have set the camera to expose. A short shutter speed. Even though this is on a normal afternoon, the background, besides the foliage under the moth which is also being directly illuminated, is completely black.
I cannot set the camera so that both are illuminated, because the background would require a long exposure time (more light gathered) which would make the bug just a white shape. The lunar surface is strongly illuminated, the light of the stars is faint. To get around this, for modern astro photos, people take photos of the stars and then blend them with a separately exposed photo of the landscape.
Our eyes/brains have a much higher dynamic range (the ability to see range of brightness at the same time, given in exponential stops - our eyes can see approx 20 stops or 2²⁰ shades of brightness - 1:1000000 while the best mirrorless cameras today top out at about 15 - 2¹⁵/1:32000 at base iso / ideal conditions) than any film or camera in existence, hence our ability to perceive both at times.

Ostatnio edytowane:
Where are all the stars in the lunar sky in the photos of the landing?
You can't see stars very well when you're on a planet(moon) without atmosphere. The light we see on earth is diffracted through our atmosphere making the little specs of light more obvious. The other thing is that the photos of earth taken from the moon landing were done with a daytime lense and it had the focus set up to capture the earth. Those tiny specs of light just wouldn't be enough to show up on film. Even when pointed directly into the void of space it just wasn't designed to capture those little lights.

OT:
Buzz is a hero and deserves so much better than this. I hope for a Christmas miracle and that he gets proper care.

At the end of the day I dunno, even if he was a dogshit dad and did it to himself, as a matter of principle and in respect to the legacy he leaves to the country I still think his offspring should do something to mitigate his passing. Not for him but what he stood for to millions of Americans. Then have a tell all book release 100 years from now shitting all over his name as is tradition.

People tend to be naive about the death process, both the patient and the people observe from the outside. The patient will often times become really belligerant and refuse to make any preparations to handle their affairs and will literally stew in their own filth like Buzz is currently doing. The children apparently tried making an intervention using legal means to arrange a more comfortable end of life for him and were rebuffed so frustration has set in and they're resigned to letting nature take its course. Along the whole way you'll have people judging your character "well I wouldn't do that because I am i just a moral person" when the family likely has been crushed mentally, physically, legally and financially trying to handle the whole thing with a non-compliant person, someone who is a physical wreck and needs assistance but is still mentally lucid enough to frustrate legal tactics to assume greater control over their life to ease the burden.
