Every time I've ever pressed a "defund police add social workers" position, I've asked what social workers -- as first responders -- are supposed to do about obviously and plainly violent suspects. I've never heard an actual answer to that question. Usually it gets handwaved. Occasionally straight denial: "oh that never happens." One admitted it'd be best to have police and social workers both dispatched for first contact and decide in situ who "goes first."
