Back in my hometown, house prices are inexplicably $200k+ where the median income for an individual is <$40,000. The median income for married households is <$90,000. Apparently those people need to save 100% of their annual income or half of their annual income for DINKs so they can get a deposit and finally buy a house and this is a reasonable expectation. In actuality, the town is completely stagnant and if you want any financial freedom you just up and leave. Where to? One of a few nearby larger cities which are even more expensive but have proportionally higher paying jobs.
