This seems like it would'be been an easy win for the GOP if that was the only demand, though I can imagine with it only being a one-year extension it would've become an issue again in the midterms - which is probably what the Democrats wanted.

It would instantly be a midterm issue. They either put it down now or make it permanent. Those are the two real options on the table. A 1 year extension does nothing.

Just putting this out there: I voted for Trump, Vance, and the prospect of having Tulsi Gabbard and RFK Jr on their side. I did not vote for any local Republicans on a municipal or state level purely because of two big reasons:

a) NY GOP is utterly milquetoast and ineffective, even as far back as when Giuliani/Bloomberg and Pataki were in power here in NYC/NYS. They haven't put any worthwhile candidates worth voting for over the last 20+ years. Most judges, district attorneys, county clerks, county executives, and so on run uncontested with lifelong Democrat incumbents. They only ever shoot for big ticket positions like mayor or governor, assemblyman, senator, representative, etc and completely fucking ignore everything else.

b) As said multiple times before: Republicans absolutely fucking suck with ground-level engagement and mobilisation of their constituents. It doesn't fucking matter if I agree with the rationale behind a good 55% of their policy positions and viscerally despise Democrats as a political party and as elected officials more broaddly. If literally everyone who canvasses, knocks on doors, holds public events, etc are fucking Democrats and not Republicans, then the GOP is clearly fundamentally fucking incapable of winning.

Until the GOP's able to fix these two fundamental problems and actually puts some goddamn effort that go beyond flooding "VOTE FOR X/Y/Z" signs near highway exit ramps and green dividers, I'm remaining 100% unaffiliated. I'm only tentatively aligned with Republicans because national-level leadership actually seems to give a damn, Graham and Rand notwithstanding.

The fact that nonpermanent residents can even get aid is absurd to me. Half of our problems would evaporate if we had a simple rule of requiring 20 years of net tax contribution from every single foreigner, including naturalized citizens, before they are eligible for a cent of needs-based aid. If they're not even productive enough to exceed our poverty lines, what could they possibly be adding to the economy?

The root of beef prices is not the rancher, it is the absolute monopoly on slaughter that exists between three major corporations in the US. Ranchers are getting decent prices for beef, sale prices are retarded high now; but it doesn't matter when you HAVE to take your cows to a designated slaughter site where they are marked as low grade, or inedible for human consumption (i.e. dog food grade). This is fucking outstanding work by the USDA and Trump. Everyone should be celebrating this. We have to eat dogshit foreign beef because we no longer have local slaughterhouses; there are more cows than people in my county, and I still get fucking Argentine beef at Walmart (die in a fire, Walmart).
