I'd say maybe a little half and half. Sometimes it's possible to convey somethings that you actually believe but also have a flair of facetious exaggeration as a joke to play it up for effect.
I've made some tongue-in-cheek posts before but it's to make a point and I don't drag it out too long.

As a man you can just pull over on a side road and take a piss out in nature like God intended.
Yeah but my mother isn't a man, and her knees aren't what they used to be, therefore things like squat toilets are a problem. I know their trip to Europe was somewhat abstracted, a lot of tour group stuff and not able to do things like visit an Auchan or go to restaurants that aren't overpriced (even by European standards) tourist traps...but squat toilets for public restrooms seemed substandard.

I've only seen squat toilets in places like Albania.

In case anyone thinks that urbanism is a grassroots movement, here is an excerpt from a 2009 Obama Town Hall where he declares the era of sprawl over:
Q: Yes, he's a good man. And my fellow councilmen. Cities throughout Florida are having a difficult time because of the mortgage crisis. Growth has slowed. We fund our transportation infrastructure needs through impact fees. Now that we're not getting that, we're falling behind in our ability to keep up with road work, municipal water projects, being able to bring the solar panel down here to an inland port. We need commuter rail. We need lots of things for infrastructure in this state. If we ran out of oil today, we would not be able to move anything around in this state, honest to God. And I hope you're going to help get that thing in the Gulf -- to turn that around. We don't want to drill oil in the Gulf, thank you. Right on. (Applause.) We've got a beautiful, pristine state.

So I want to ask you, how will we get our state going again in transportation? I'm very worried about our dependence on foreign oil, and I don't want to drill in the Gulf. I want some commuter rail and I want to improve our transportation -- (applause).

PRESIDENT OBAMA: Well, we have targeted billions of dollars at infrastructure spending. And states all across the country are going through what Florida is going through. There was a study done by the American Association of Engineers -- that might not be the exact title, but engineers from all across the country. We get a "D" in infrastructure all across the country. We saw what happened in Minneapolis, where a bridge collapsed and resulted in tragedy. And not only do we need to rebuild our roads and our bridges, our ports, our levees, our dams, but we also have to plan for the future.

This is the same example of turning crisis into opportunity. This should be a wake-up call for us. You go to Shanghai, China right now and they've got high-speed rail that puts our railroads to shame. They've got ports that are state-of-the-art. Their airports are -- compared to the airports that we -- you go through Beijing Airport and you compare that to Miami Airport? Look, this is America. (Applause.)

We always had the best infrastructure. We were always willing to invest in the future. You know, somebody -- Governor Crist mentioned Abraham Lincoln. In the middle of the Civil War, in the midst of all this danger and peril, what did he do? He helped move the Intercontinental Railroad. He helped to start land grant colleges. He understood that even when you're in the middle of crisis you've got to keep your eye on the future. (Applause.)

So transportation, when it -- is not just fixing our old transportation systems, but it's also imagining new transportation systems. That's why I'd like to see high-speed rail where it can be constructed. (Applause.) I would like for us to invest in mass transit because potentially that energy efficient. And I think people are a lot more open now to thinking regionally, in terms of how we plan our transportation infrastructure. The days where we're just building sprawl forever, those days are over. (Applause.) I think that Republicans, Democrats, everybody recognizes that that's not a smart way to design communities.

So we should be using this money to help spur this kind of innovative thinking when it comes to transportation. That will make a big difference. All right? (Applause.)

Okay, I've only got time for one more question. I feel bad about it. It's got to be a guy. So, women, you got to all sit down. Women, you got to all sit down. It's got to be a man. All right. I'm going to call on this guy, because he has a cap, and he thought I had called on him and I didn't. So all right, right here. The guy with the cap. Last question. Of course, now it better be a good one. Go ahead.

It's no coincidence that every blue city became anti-car around that time despite the average Democrat voter being pro-car.

Obama also forced small communities to build high-density Section 8 apartments that were filled with illegal aliens and ghetto dwellers from the nearest big city.

Also in urbanist land, the TSA has invaded their beloved high speed trains, making them just as annoying as modern airports:

I don't know why they ever cited having no TSA as an advantage of trains. It's like when they cite having no license, registration or insurance as an advantage of bikes. That's not an inherent advantage, that's just the government forcing themselves on the populace, and it shouldn't be surprising when they force TSA screening on trains too.

Amtrak may not be as prominent as air travel, but only a fool would think that it wouldn't have security measures. One guy smuggling a bomb onto a train would could kill hundreds and disrupt rail travel for weeks, so things have to be screened; drugs of course would also be an issue.

I wanna blame Tulsa King for this idea popping up again, since Stallone's character and his mafia buddies talk about taking rail since they'd get screened if they flew.

Imagine being so monumentally retarded, when confronted with extra security screening measures, your first immediate thought isn't "there must be an increased terror threat".
It's the holiday season (AKA muzzies plowing cars into Christmas markets season), and a homegrown ISIS plot was just foiled by the FBI a week ago. Gee whiz, Batman, it's a fucking mystery 🤷‍♀️

Tulsa King, a show (allegedly) about Tulsa with scripts written by Californian faggots who clearly never stepped foot in Oklahoma.

The funniest thing about that show (aside from the fact that the Tulsa area does in fact has a long colorful history of mafia activity - in the 20's, Tulsa was one of the few major metro areas close to old timey mob hotspot Hot Springs, Arkansas) is that only the 1st season was even filmed on location in Oklahoma. The cast and crew hated filming in Oklahoma because it was too hot :story:

"What are they screening for" is a retarded question when there's a litany of things that aren't allowed on Amtrak. Firearms and explosives are probably what they're looking for.

I would imagine sometime soon there's going to be an article about someone who was arrested for bringing a bag of frozen shrimp on an Amtrak train, ignoring that his other luggage included a loaded pistol, several blocks of C-4, a combat knife, and a Guatemalan dwarf wearing a rubber fetish outfit.

Also he had a funny edit of JD Vance in his photos, so it was totally about the regime being mad about mockery.

You don't get screened on German high speed rail (or regular rail for that matter), but I think you do get screened when boarding the Eurostar between Paris and London. Been a while since I took that one, but I'm pretty sure you do get screened there.
I guess it depends on how the trains are organised. In Germany the high speed rail is treated basically like the regional rail, it doesn't get special platforms or rail systems (for the most part) so it shares all infrastructure with all other trains. Can't really install security checks on that.
But Eurostar has its own terminals and platforms, and also a more complex border situation going from Schengen/EU to outside.
I think the Spanish high speed lines use dedicated tracks and platforms, and Amtrack also has its own terminals and platforms.
Security checks are what you get when society is going to hell. Annoying, but it's not like urbanists are generally too opposed to being angry and violent to achieve their political goals.

It's funny to me how they seemingly argue against things that should be in their favor for self preservation, such as wearing a helmet on a bike.

Airports didn’t use to have security checks and a lot of American airport terminals have half the lounge space that they were originally designed to have after they were renovated to add checkpoints. Adding checkpoints to train stations can be done, even if doing so makes the rest of the station suck.

Like @Markass the Worst said, the lack of security checkpoints isn’t an inherit feature of rail but rather because no one has done a 9/11-scale terrorist attack yet. I wouldn’t be surprised if European stations get checkpoints if mass rail stabbings continue to happen.

China, being a paranoid police state, already has TSA-style checkpoints at all of its HSR stations.

I bet it's in response to that Ukranian girl getting stabbed on transit. Can't actually ban the real cause so it's time for a lil' Federal Security Theatre. In fairness, packing a bunch of people into a metal tube that can't be exited easily and allowing future doctors and lawyers to just walk onboard is a recipe for trouble.

If it's that onerous, there's no TSA station outside your own private automobile. :smug:

When I was in China i had to walk through three military checkpoints to get from one end of Tiananmen square to another. If that’s what urban paradise looks like i don’t want it.

To be fair, urbanists shrink from any amount of order maintenance in their 'paradises' so you would just be walking through three homeless encampments instead.

Meanwhile they're on a decades long crusade to rip up car infrastructure to build bike lanes but the long awaited "bro we'll just be like Holland bro" bike revolution just isn't happening. What's their general response? "We just need more bike lanes bro just one more lane bro I promise people will stop driving we just need more lanes"

I think there is a valid reason for this. For 99% of people cycling on the road is unthinkable and insane. Even having to drive on a street a little bit makes cycling untenable. North American cities are also just too large and spread out for this to be viable.

Urbanist worship of the cycle is pretty crippling because most people do want expanded train networks and buses that don't get stuck in traffic.

That and their unwilingness to police transit cause it would be mean to the heckin bums, junkies, and darkies.
