That being said, Trump and his cabinet need to start getting their shit together on the economy and housing issues and start making moves on them.

I think it's just a reminder that we're not out of the woods yet which has hindered the upper end of people's hopes. With such momentum the hope was that even lefty strongholds would flip, this has been a reality check. Nobody likes a reality check.

Also the fact that mamdami is a muslim AND a socialist and sort of indian (i think?) is a triple whammy and there's that other one who texted the two bullets thing. Symbolism matters.

Though I would like to remind people that mamdami was only elected mayor, even for the most important city on earth that's a fairly class-president position and nowhere near as powerful as he's pretending it is. He doesn't have that much power to do things and most people didn't vote at all (largely because most people are disillusioned on elections and don't care, their choice was between cancer and aids) so he's also not a great indicator of where hearts and minds truly lie.
