r/fuckcars / Not Just Bikes / Urbanists / New Urbanism / Car-Free / Anti-Car - People and grifters who hate personal transport, freedom, cars, roads, suburbs, and are obsessed with city planning and urban design

I have to imagine people like Jason still think of "SUVs" as what they were 20-30 years ago, as basically the station wagon version of pickup trucks. That's really not an accurate view anymore. You still have a select few proper truck-based legacy SUVs like the Suburban, Expedition, and 4Runner, but the vast, vast majority of modern SUVs sold are just taller versions of sedans and hatchbacks. When I was growing up, and my hippie leftist aunt was criticizing SUVs as a concept, you just knew she was mentally inserting, like, a Hummer H2 or a GMC Yukon. That's just what people understood an SUV to be twenty years ago.

A typical "SUV" nowadays is, more often than not, the one on the right, not the one on the left. When urbanist soycucks whinge about "increasing SUV sales", that's the shit they're unknowingly referring to. Obviously even a smaller crossover SUV is larger than the equivalent sedan, but the fuel economy and size differences are nowhere near as pronounced as they were twenty years ago. It's just the perception amongst leftists of every single SUV being a hulking, truck-based monolith that has lingered since the 2000s, even though the category is mostly dominated by smaller unibody crossover vehicles in Current Year.
Wikipedia says crossovers make up 40% of all new car sales in the United States and tbh I think it might be even more. There are crossovers everywhere, I see them at least as often as I see sedans. Most of my neighbors have crossovers.

It's the same attitude urbanite leftists have toward private property in general. You don't actually need that truck because it's not being used to do work. You don't actually need that detached home on an acre lot because you could be living in a much smaller and more efficient space. You don't actually need the savings hoarded in your bank account because that money could be used for things they want for society. It's all about efficiency to them, and then they get mad when normal people just want to enjoy stuff.

With a small difference. The ones on the left won't call you crazy for buying something of no use for you and of a financial detriment. They will demand you give this over in the name of "The greater good".

I will call you retarded for buying a truck you use twice monthly to go to the bar, but that is it.

I live in a town that has lots of pickup trucks even for American standards, and today I saw a pickup truck dragging a trailer with a Kei truck on it, giving a full but brief view in scale. I had never seen a Kei truck in person before, but my first thought that it was a small vehicle and reminded me more of a forklift than an operational vehicle, both in size and function.

The advantage of a truck bed is you can just throw stuff in, whether trash you intend to deal with later, tools or whatever you need at a work site, groceries or other merchandise, your friends...the Kei truck looked like pretty useless for half of those, and came across as something that would have all of the disadvantages of a truck (limited seating, etc.) while none of the advantages (rugged, weight capacity, etc.) that real pickup trucks have. A minivan can do anything a Kei truck can and much more.

Mostly because it's all you can buy anymore aside from a proper truck like Null posted. Likewise with automatic transmissions, distracting touchscreen infotainment, etc. Blah% of all vehicles sold stats are kinda bullshit in that way. It's 100% of sales when there's no other options.

Funny how they keep ignoring that China is probably one of the most car brained societies, where your car defines your worth and social status.

"But guys don't let this distract you from the fact that BYD cars and SUVs are great and totally better than American, German and Japanese cars which is why they're the exception to our rule."

And their highways suck, not just in the fact that they're probably made from sawdust and styrofoam, but poorly-designed. I would guess that this guy moved to China because he was making peanuts in Canada, moving is easy extremely expensive (especially overseas). The price I'd pay to send my battlestation and monitor overseas is enough I'd be better off just getting a new computer.

Chinese drivers are also extremely reckless, and they will not hesitate to hit bikers and then flee if they can get to their destinations a few seconds faster, because Good Samaritan laws were only recently implemented.

That's true. /r/fuckcars pretends that drivers in the United States can kill cyclists with no consequences, in China you pretty much can, and not only will your death not even be a statistic, you'll probably end up in the "Watch people die" thread and 4chan webms.

Honestly, I don't see anything particularly wrong with this. Guy didn't like his country, moved to another country rather than trying to fuck up his own and is now living happily. Would you have rather had this guy stay in canada and vote for more left wing bullshit? Granted, you can say the same about Jason and my country. But China isn't a democracy so this guy doesn't have much political impact. Jason does, especially now that he is able to vote.

Also, I actually kind of agree with the guys under "It's totally awesome that China is an ethnostate!:" (specifically the third dude) in the sense that blatant racism towards ethnicities who happen to come from a country which the US deems an enemy is often taken a blind eye to and even encouraged by people who would clutch their pearls if you said "nigger". By far the most fucked up dehumanizing shit I have ever heard spewed was towards Chinese and Russians and nothing I have ever heard said about niggers, indians and other brownoids comes even close.

I cannot count the number of rich Chinese international students I saw who would drive like they just chugged a handle of Everclear, park in the no parking lanes, and wreck their Mercedeses. Chinese think the road law in America works like it does over there, where you can run over a guy and get off scot-free because you're rich.

...is China trying to solve it's population decline/gender imbalance by recruiting dumb Western immigrants? Do these dipshits realize that vehicular manslaughter are charges that you can catch for hitting someone with a car.

That's actually due to an (alleged IDK I'm not an international lawyer) quirk in Chinese criminal liability laws - I saw a Rumble video on it last year, explaining why there's so many insane Chinese hit & run videos on social media where the driver seemingly "backs up" to finish off the victim!

As it was explained in the video, if you (i.e. a private Chinese citizen) cause severe injury to someone in a car accident, you are more financially liable than if you had just ran over and killed them. So for most (non connected) Chinese citizens, they are fucked/can lose their livelihoods if their accident victim lives (since the Chinese state seizes assets/bank accounts/etc. to pay the fine). Which obviously, leads to Chinese folks just hitting & running, or in many instances, hitting, backing up, running over again, & again than fleeing the scene.

Funny how they keep ignoring that China is probably one of the most car brained societies, where your car defines your worth and social status.

??? Are they insane? Major Chinese cities have some of the largest, most complex, most used highways on Earth - highways that make the 610 Loop/Houston freeway (which seems to be the bane of r/fuckcars existence, considering how many posts over there are dedicated solely to complaining about it) look like a children's ride.

Back to my theory that r/fuck cars are a bunch of out of touch racist limousine liberals - like, the r/fuckcars' argument literally only works if they assume China is mostly underdeveloped/unindustrialized occupied primarily by rural peasants working in rice paddies (while the Chinese elite live in small enclaves of technological 15 minute bugmen smart cities).

It's so much nicer to take public transit home from the game than it is to drive:

In my experience at large events, it always takes me more time to get from my seat to outside of the stadium than it does for me to drive home. Whenever I've parked at large events, after leaving the stadium, it's just a pleasant walk to the car followed by a short drive to the highway directed by traffic cops. In contrast, at transit-dependent sites, I'm crammed shoulder-to-shoulder with thousands of other people slowly shuffling towards a train that will be standing room only until just before my stop. I much prefer driving and suburban stadiums.

It still goes with the idea that urbanists don't respect their own time. Spending half an hour on a bicycle to go to the store every day may be "cheaper" than driving but it means that your time is worthless. If you pay for free parking and a discounted ticket for mass transit rather than the $20+ parking you're probably paying more for the discomfort of mass transit and the 15-minute ride to get to the park-and-ride.

On that subject, that's another part where RGR is a moderate that Reddit doesn't respect being a moderate, he glazes Mercedes-Benz Stadium for being a transit-accessible site while Truist Park out in Cobb County is only accessible by car.

The thing about roads is that as long as you have a vehicle of any sort--your own or an Uber, the roads are open 24/7 and never close down for the night.

Yeah roads can close for construction and protests, but never because government workers decided not to show up for work that day, or decided to fuck off for the night.

I would guess that the shitshow in Toronto happened because of some union/government bullshit where they dictated that they would only work x hours a week and could not work out some sort of alternate/extended schedule to deal with temporary surges.

Oh The Urbanity!, a sometimes moderate urbanoid channel, posted a video coping and seething about a specific candidate for the Montreal city elections, who said will stop funding bike lanes in the city. The entire video is being a whiny libtard and interviewing other complaining libtards.
Today is the election day in Montreal and the candidate in question, Leslie Roberts, is currently holding 54% of the votes for his councilor electoral district. If he wins, there's going to be so much seethe generated from the urbanoids, especially lispy ones in Montreal.
Just goes to show you, once again, that the wants of urbanoids don't always align with the needs of the normal people.

There's also something else that I thought was funny just now. You know how one of China's economic plans is to mass produce cheap EVs and flood western countries with them by selling them at a low MSRP that is almost comparable to what a new car costs a few decades ago.

Well I would imagine this would be one of the urbanists peeves as one would imagine they don't like the idea of a country effectively increasing the amount of cars on the road in other countries by lowering the price tag. Now I'm not saying I would advise anyone I care about to actually buy one, but I just thought it funny that this country they worship effectively also has a plan to exacerbate car brainedness to other countries as well.

The municipal political party that Roberts is in, Ensemble Montréal, also won the mayor position and a small majority on the city council. The party generally has similar views on transportation and urban planning to Roberts so there should be a shift in city policies over the next several years.

These people will mock you if you argue for expanding any sort of car-infrastructure and throw around the concept of induced demand as if it is a knock-down argument in its own right, almost like its gospel.

"If you add more lanes you cause more traffic, duh!"

Meanwhile they're on a decades long crusade to rip up car infrastructure to build bike lanes but the long awaited "bro we'll just be like Holland bro" bike revolution just isn't happening. What's their general response? "We just need more bike lanes bro just one more lane bro I promise people will stop driving we just need more lanes"
