I know this is a joke but they are fake (aka heavily shooped), unless getting your implants removed means your nipples shrink by 80%. In the old videos that are archived here her nipples are mangled and the size of a saucer. Granted this might be a legitimate phenomenon, I do not know any women who got implants and then removed them a few years later, nor do I know any women who has nipples that shrank to less than half their original size. I always hated that revisionist history. People want to act like they're so smart for understanding the movie and that other people *totally* missed the point of the movie. Like shouldn't it be Verhoeven's fault that supposedly no one got it? That just means he did a poor job conveying that to the audience. If you read contemporary reviews of the time, most critics picked up on it. They just thought that it was poorly done and kinda stupid.

Many parents would let their under-16 children read the book, but not see the movie. That's how ineffective his attempt was.
I know it sucks to feel dumb, but personally, if I was writing/directing a film in my third language, based on a book by a highly skilled speaker of said language, I would get a native speaker to advise and edit and listen to him very intently, and defer to him wrt any idiomatic (& possibly subtextual?) decisions. Verhoeven speaks worse english than William Friedkin but really thought he could do a Nabokov switch in a major Hollywood production? Fucking egomaniac must think his balls are made of solid gold.

My ex girlfriend used to watch this show about a pair of plastic surgeons that used to help people with fucked up plastic surgeries by trying to fix some of the issues, from what I remember they sometimes could try to reconstruct the nipples if they were too mangled due any past procedure.
