VR was absolutely a thing, but graphics technology sucked, especially in regards to home VR, and very few developers actually supported VR in any capacity. couple that with computers just not being all that strong to begin with and nobody is buying anything with that. I don't even remember seeing them on shelves even though I know at least two VR products were being sold for consumer use.

I think so. The final result didn't have much to do with VR, but there's an interesting story about how they tried to design a proper VR console and failed for various reasons, having to, in my opinion, severely cut down their original scope. The bulky, stationary, red light device is a MASSIVE compromise on their part to just get anything remotely like what they wanted on the market. It was a fraction of the price of "real" VR but obviously, as we all know, people didn't want that. And even assuming that nobody got motion sickness or that they didn't have trouble syncing two screens in 90s potato technology, people sure as fuck wouldn't be buying the $1000+ "ideal" Virtual Boy. You had a hard enough time getting people to buy $1000 computers with the promise of multiple use cases for everyone in the family.
