I won't join you for a hunt because it sounds miserable, but I do like guns and would join for you some target practice at a range, or just plinking. Also deer and moose are just quite tasty.
Seems like a lot of work for one person. Not just killing the animal, but also butchering and cleaning the carcass, freezing the meat, maintaining your equipment, etc. I don't think most people would stick with it for long, and if a man did, I guess I'd find his diligence admirable in a way.

Harvesting a deer isn't trivial but it isn't that difficult, especially once you've gained experience. Typically households will work on it together, more than one pair of hands makes the process much faster.
Hunting and fishing is a human tradition as well as being an enjoyable hobby and relatively cost effective. If you just consider the price of a deer tag (yes the government requires you pay for a permission slip, no refunds) and say 50lbs of meat harvested you're looking at less than a dollar per pound. I'd wager the problem solving aspect of hunting probably tickles the 'tisms just right for a lot of people.

It's doable if you're selling. I have a relative who makes deer jerky but rather than fully processing every bit he doesn't use, he cuts it into manageable pieces and sells them for others to process. Doesn't need an industrial grinder, doesn't need a massive freezer. It's a common practice with backyard farming too, whatever you don't need gets sold or put in a communal bin.
How about men who hunt for environmental reasons? By this I mean those who cull animals as a means of population control, reduction/elimination of non-native invasive species etc.
ngl that sounds like a wholesome family activity, with the added bonus that skills are being passed down to the next generation.
