the main thing to me, removing the weird messaging and shit twist, is that the kitsune (japanese fox monsters) look like and are handled like dog shit. there's a old visual novel called ayakashibito that handled a few of them and went into detail about lore, and other lit besides, like tomamo no mae, and it's crazy how poorly used they often are. tons of interesting folklore behind them, like each of their tails having the potential to be it's own entity, each tail representing decades of growth, insane magical power, shapeshifting, very high levels of knowledge. granted a lot of that's irrelevant in a silent hill game where nearly everything is just mostly a deadly cardboard stand in metaphor, but even then they look like shit. even the fox face from the nostalgia critic the wall video was creepier. it's like a static sfm asset slapped on a character. the arm also is really retarded, if they wanted that mechanic they should have really done something much more slender instead of a fucking re5 or prototype furry mutation. if they wanted to attach kitsune for symbolism they could have just added something like getting claws and being able to have a rechargable fire blast or some form of temporary magic, or just growing claws and freaking the fuck out attack wise with unnatural speed which would probably fit the general twist the most.

it's been a long time since i've really played mgs in totality, but imo biggest thing i took from it, especially by 5's revelations, is the core of the saga is the boss had an idea and then each of her apprentices or people related to her apprentice tried to follow their own interpretations and fucked it up in new and interesting ways, until 4 which just essentially reset the status quo of their machinations on the world. people can take various messages and make 5 hour vids on the politics of 2 but generally to me i never really took much from it politic wise greater than damn near everyone is corrupt and sucks. friends are ok but quite a few of them suck too. *cue some variant of snake screaming at the sky* his comment about the boss being a mary sue rung true to me but idea wise and game wise she didn't seem like a perfect liberal dream propagandist etc, more like a severe nihlist, wants to die, basically commits suicide at the end. she has ideas for how the world should be but they're all shown through her extensions to be fucked. the entire message in general is kind of fucked anyway because if you compare and contrast the real world, nobody needs a fucking metal gear that'd probably be a tril per step when you have nuclear submarines. any anti nuke message is pointless because any enlightened group removing them would then just be literally gang raped by muslims/jeets etc (rape already in progress regardless but anyway). i dunno general message is more something like anti war but war will always be regardless, like a form of cynicism and futility and perseverance in the face of it, but with minimal power of friendship or happy endings. series ends with nearly entire cast dead, everything reverts back to 0, and the only happy ending is basically a forced cuck since hyper aging and then waiting to die.
