I'm not really sure about their dogs specific cancer or whatever, but chemo for dogs and cats isn't really the same as for humans. The animals respond differently and don't have the same side effects, if they have any at all. Sometimes the "chemo" is just a tablet they take and that combined with a steroid restores the quality of life the animal had before diagnosis and they can live for many years without incident. The cost is often the "worst" part of the treatment.

I think it's because when they try to save people with chemo they go really extreme to save a human life but with pets it's much more mild because why make a dog suffer for months? I feel sorry for their dog regardless. It's always upsetting to see a dog get fat and be crated all the time.

The term bloat in reference to dogs is normally in reference to a specific phenomena in large dogs or dogs with hollow chests where sometimes if the dog eats or drinks water and then is active immediately after the stomach can flip over on itself and begin to swell. The symptoms are abdominal distension, gas, burping, etc and it needs correction very quickly if the dog has any chance.
It can be fatal in as quick as 30 minutes and something large breed owners should be on the look out for. We have a breed that is predisposed to bloat so it's something I always look out for my dog and watch her when she eats or drinks to make sure she's not too active.
