They should have stuck to little dogs and kept them on a healthy diet if they just have to have pets to sit around with them.

Considering how openly callous they are towards humans they shouldn't own pets. I'm not going to claim they're beating their dogs off camera but it's clear these two have issues understanding other perspectives or experiencing empathy for others.
