I don’t think this point can be stressed enough. Kirk’s entire thing on college campuses was taking with people because he thought “when we stopped talking with each other, violence happens.” He was so inoffensive. Even killing someone like Crowder makes more sense, because he’s at least an obnoxious asshole who doesn’t seem to act in good faith. Kirk was just a dopey, friendly guy who went around debating people to try to stop exactly what happened today.
Words fail me in describing in the irony of that. The message it sends is unmistakable.

Like what others have said before in this fast-moving thread, it’s a signifier that the marketplace of ideas and Classical Liberalism in the US is dead. You can’t even engage in debate with them even as awful as it is to debate with leftwingers, as they just want you dead.
