Escape From New York: Louis Rossmann Edition - Hopefully he does not make Texas a bughive

The Austin city council specifically canceled the one item on their agenda for Thursday's meeting that Louis was rallying people to show up for.

Thank you city council for providing everyone - myself included - an entire month to prepare so they can show their support and voice the concerns instead of just a couple of weeks! I hope Louis continues to fixate on this and brings a huge crowd at the September meeting.

Watch, in September they will cancel it again when they realize more people are going to show up for this and then just go "fuck it, we're putting these things up anyway, you have no say on this!".

I'm out of the loop on the whole FUTO thing. I just visited the site and see it's sponsoring garbage like Signal, Asahi Linux and GrapheneOS. Couldn't possibly be more diseased.
There's some good projects they give money to.

Probably the most important thing they sponsor is Ladybird, and their most important offering is Grayjay.

FUTO = Billionaire lolbertarian Eron Wolf trying to find ways to support open source, right to repair, sticking it to Google, etc.

Isn't Louis not affiliated with FUTO anymore?

My only complaints are that Asahi is useless and Signal requires a phone number (it should have gone to SimpleX instead). FUTO got plenty of shit from GrapheneOS because they also gave a grant to the Calyx Institute so I don't think they will be donating to GrapheneOS again.

Why would Archive.ph and Archive.org not work?
I told him what to use in this thread:

Wikipedia even cites archive.today links.

Why would Archive.ph and Archive.org not work?
Archive.org/Internet Archive will take pages down if someone claims copyright. It sometimes removes people's entire social media timeline (Taylor Lorenz for example, and there's speculation her family has influence over IA). IA will also cave to political pressure, like when they removed Kiwi Farms at Becky Gerber's request during DropKiwiFarms.

Archive.ph is good, but the owner is flaky. For a while he intentionally broke Brave browsers connecting to the archive. While the service is solid, it seems to be run on a less stable foundation in 3rd world countries with unknown finances. It's good enough for regular archives, but if Louis wants something 100% available and acceptable to a court of law, he may want something better or more auditable.

Considering how useful archives have become to both Louis' and GamersNexus' reporting and advocacy, it's not surprising they're starting to worry about what happens if the archive sites become compromised. After all, search engines used to serve the same purpose, and now they are actively spreading bad data and misinformation.

That must be ancient history at this point.

The fact is that you need to use all of them, and if the content is important to winning a lawsuit or upholding your reputation, take the time to run it through all of the big ones at once: Archive.today, Ghostarchive, Megalodon.jp, and the Wayback Machine (are there more to mention?). I do all 4 for some relatively unimportant UFO schizophrenia stuff, so it should definitely be done for the terms & conditions of shady companies.

I emailed him.

That sounds like a good solution, it's not going to be easy for a company to get all four of those down. If Louis wants an additional website that doesn't have the downsides of these (OK it would probably have the same downside as ghostarchive in terms of reliability because good servers are expensive), he could probably learn how to make a web scraper and downloader in a week, or even have copilot vibe code it. However, if he wants to defeat anti-web scrapers then he will need to hire a developer to make and maintain it.

The Internet never forgets (that's the point). Or forgives.

Sure, I use all of them at times too. It's fine for a video calling out shady companies, or a New Zealand agricultural concern providing receipts about gay Internet drama.

But there are actual, technical rules for evidence and provenance of exhibits in courtrooms, that these sites may not meet. Something organized, trusted, and long-running like IA may be sufficient for a court exhibit, especially as they're responsive to subpoenas. But then a company may pre-emptively get IA to not archive their services, especially as Louis or Steve (GN) burn some high profile bad actors. That leaves the less reputable sites, which may not hold enough credibility for a court to acknowledge, especially if they aren't subject to US jurisdiction.

I know Null has a hundred different things on his plate and continues to be debanked, but I've long thought the biggest impact USIPS could have is establishing an untouchable, auditable, court-compliant archive site. Or at least the FOSS software to run one. There are ways of making things mathematically guaranteed archives, like checksums and blockchain.

I wouldn't be surprised if all of them have been used in various courts. From a Megalodon page about their paid service:

Text translated from Japanese powiedział(a):
Unlike the current Web Gyotaku, which is automatically published, it is made private.
Web Gyotaku has a track record of being used in various court cases, but I would like to use it as court materials, etc., but it can be seen by others Unlike the regular version of Web Gyotaku, which always has the possibility of being deleted, it is private.

Even if a lone archive isn't admissible in court, it should be good enough to help Rossmann not look like a fool, i.e. it will work in the court of public opinion.
