Latest Windows 11 security patch might be breaking SSDs under heavy workloads — Phison investigating reports of disappearing drives following file transfers, including some that cannot be recovered after a reboot

Here are a list of tested and affected drives that did and did not get fucked in the Windows 11 security update

Notably WD Blue M.2 SSD's got turbofucked and couldn't be retrieved.

The error occurs when downloading 50gb or more at once. Seems to affect drives without NAND more.

Now my rig is all SSD's, 1 SATA, 3 M.2. I haven't noticed any issues. I also haven't been making heavy downloads to my one MLC Kingston NV2 drive I use for file storage so... idk 🤷‍♂️, everything else has 3D NAND. But this is something to be aware of if you have Windows 11. Hopefully they fix this fast.
I have popcorn ready.

Let me guess, pajeet coding triggered massive write amplification and drives can't cope.
Edit. WD drives shitting themselves for good? Where have I seen that before?

Fucked if i know. I just hope it isn't wide spread and is just only fucking with a few machines.

Phison takes legal action over falsified 'leaked' document on Windows SSD issues — says it continues to investigate reports of problems (archive)
On Tuesday, we reported that a Microsoft security update for Windows 11 appears to be causing SSD failures following heavy file transfers. While drives sporting Phison NAND controllers are amongst the drives affected, Phison's tech is not solely impacted, as was erroneously reported elsewhere. In a statement to Tom's Hardware, Phison confirmed it is aware of the issue and is investigating.

In the meantime, Phison says it has recently become aware of a "falsified document" that has been passed off as having originated from within the company, and has reportedly been circulated to various customers. "We wish to state unequivocally that the document in question—reproduced below—is neither an official nor unofficial communication from Phison," the company told Tom's Hardware.

Whats your new rigs specs.
9800X3D, B850 Plus Wifi (which seems to be the problem), 32GB RAM, 5080 and the rest. I've seen a lots of reports of issues with WiFi and the board. I'm going to get it sorted tomorrow and some will be enjoying prison. Tomorrow I'll hook up via ethernet and fix this BS. It's what I deserve for notting getting a pair oof 5800X3D's last year.

Was doing some window shopping for parts just so I have a idea of what to buy when I get the money, why is it allmost all modern motherboards now have in built WiFi? Dunno, feels kinda weird. Maybe I am just paranoid.

Anyway, I am looking to replace my machine at the end of the year. I chose some pieces but I am somewhat lost because the current GPU naming convention is a mess and so I find it hard to tell which ones are recent launches and which one are old. The best way to check if the build is going well in my experience is to show it to other nerds and let them fight over it.

My current PC was bought in mid to late 2019, though I changed the GPU and put a simple watercooler on it. I want a machine that is better in every way for obvious reasons. Here are the specs of my current machine

Ryzen 7 2700X
A real shit chinesium water cooler
MSI X470 Gayming Pro
32Gb (2x16) DDR4 2133mhz
Radeon RX 6700 XT
500Gb M2 Ssd
2Tb HDD WD Blue

and something I made on PCPartPicker:

Also really annoying how prevalent LGBT lighting is. I would love to have either a setting to turn it all off or just not get it. Mainly on the fence about the GPU if I should try for a RX 9070 or a RX 7900 XT. The use of X's and XT's with the numbers themselves not apparently being the generation is really fucking annoying, what happened to the good old system where you have 9000 series, 9100 series, 9200 series and so on? Why this new shit that is seemlingly made to confuse you? Are they hoping I am gonna buy a older and weaker card just because the number if bigger as if I am not going to triple check before dropping over 800 Trump on a pc part?

Also: Water Coolers. Should I get one? I have a really simple one that works really well but it is chinesium made, I only found out after the fact (I should have known it was too cheap) that it has a reputation for working flawlessly until a month after the 1 year warranty expires. Thinking of getting a good one if I buy this new PC.

Before anyone can make any recs can you confirm the primary purpose of wanting to upgrade (I can only assume it’s gaming)? What resolution are you wanting to game at? What games do you mostly play? What is your budget? Do you want to do AI shit with the PC?
