With Trump offering a $50 million bounty on Maduro's head and moving ships and other assets into the area it's beginning to look like there might be a military operation and that means we need a Happening thread! Post pictures, articles, whatever is relevant to the military build up/conflict. Try to keep it English-language only or translate it. If you're local to the area please offer your insights into what's happening. And remember, have fun!

UPDATE: Maduro has been churroed.

Karoline Leavitt, White House spokesperson, says the U.S. will use “full force” against Nicolás Maduro after deploying ships near Venezuela.

For the second time in a week, on this August 18, 2025, Chavista Dictator Nicolás Maduro is once again talking about betrayal and cowardice amongst his own Regime, reiterating that "he is not blackmailable":

“There are a lot of hidden and disguised cowards who are not able to tell me things to my face because they are cowards”

It is well known that there are several factions, including those aligned with anti-Chavista groups or even, incredibly, with a Falangist bias, operating within the group of officers of the regular Venezuelan Armed Forces, waiting for a moment of weakness in the Regime to act.

Could we see a coup before there's any kind of conflict?

A U.S. Air Force Boeing 757, frequently used in special operations (CIA) of the American government, landed in Brazil without identification. The aircraft arrived in Porto Alegre, capital of Rio Grande do Sul.

The Boeing 757-200, registration 00-9001, departed the U.S. from a military base in New Jersey. Before reaching Brazilian territory, the plane also passed through Florida and Puerto Rico.

So far, the purpose of the 757-200’s trip to Brazil remains unclear, and the U.S. Embassy in Brazil has declined to comment.

This is the squadron this plane is from.

The Nicolás Maduro regime has banned the use, purchase, sale, and importation of drones throughout Venezuela, according to the new Official Gazette.

Only the Regime will be able to authorize them under military control.
He's scared he's going to get killed by a drone.

U.S. will use “full force”
As an aside, I really hate it when US spokesmen use superlatives like this. It makes us sound like tin pot faggots. Say words which have meanings. Superlatives and saber rattling are gay.

Supremely unlikely. After the purges and reorganizations carried out last time Venezuela saw unrest, there's really no internal structure, in my opinion, which would facilitate a coup. If I had to hazard a guess, Maduro is referring to difficulties with his recent mobilization order. This week, he ordered a general mobilization of 4.5 million reservists, national guard, and militia for "a comprehensive plan to defend Venezuela." What this means is as good a guess as anyone has, but the logistical issues of mobilizing these people with what limited resources Maduro has are extreme. Without information specific to this mobilization, which there is very little, I will hazard an educated guess and say that he is referring to profiteers, absenteeism, and sluggishness which have crippled his mobilization order, and he doesn't like the answers his advisors are giving. The fuel and ammo in the reserve elements has likely been siphoned off and sold on the black market, weapons, ammo, and equipment likely the same. Corrupt officers are likely using mobilized labor for personal gain (for instance, many personal estates in Venezuela of powerful people are built by conscripts under the guise of state service), and there's probably a shit ton of people that have decided to just not show up, because the reservist pay isn't enough to feed their families, so they've decided to just ignore their summons until there's a legitimate emergency.

I'm not looking forward to another 50 years of "socialist dictatorships are the best thing evurrrrr, if only it weren't for the imperialist capitalist USA fucking everything up!"

These militias are armed with Mosin-Nagant M91/30s that Russia gave them a decade ago. Here's what it looks like:

The Soviets stopped producing them in 1945. The more well trained units will be armed with FALs from the 1960s and FN-49s from the 1950s. All three of these guns use different ammo (7.62x54r, 7.62x51mm, 7x57mm respectively). The actual army is armed with AK-103s manufactured in country. The AK-103 uses 7.62x39mm. So between the militias and actual army you've got four different rifle cartridges, two different magazines for the AK and FAL, and two different stripper clips for the M91/30 and FN-49. For a modern, well trained military this would be a headache but doable. For a narco state that hasn't fought a real war in decades? They're so fucked. If we do invade we'll be dealing with guerilla warfare bullshit for years but the government will collapse in a matter of weeks.

So we got a bit of a Russia situation then.

Is this scheduled for before or after the nobel peace prize? I'm trying to figure out which eastern European country got traded for Venezuela getting potentially abandoned by Russia.
