Don't think it's AI; southern state university sorority culture is just fucking insane/cultish. Like, forcing girls to have the same/approved haircut & hair color, requiring everyone to wear the same colored outfits, only allowing in members that fit a certain "look" (i.e. no black or brown people).

A few years back, there was an Alabama State sorority rush tiktok going viral, where a girl cried about having to spend like, 400 dollars to dye her hair a specific shade of platinum blonde (mind you, the girl was already naturally blonde!). They told her she had to dye her hair in order to be allowed into the sorority.

What the fuck? I get why young adults behave in this way, its fun and all that. But what on EARTH does this have to do with Greek society? What about this is Greek? I know the fraternity/sorority stuff is more about ancient Greece but still.
Could you imagine a lore accurate Greek society? Your initiation ritual would be being forced to work in your dad/uncles cafe all summer for no pay, your songs would be about that one time you fought the Turks or the Italians in ww2. And lastly you would have to bluster big time about inventing western civilization, despite having done nothing your whole life.

Someone needs to read the actual executive order but I'm too much of a lazy fuck to do it myself. I'd imagine there's no direct punishment but it now being officially illegal will open these banks up to individual lawsuits now.

EOs can't just make laws. It isn't "officially illegal," because that would require a statute created by Congress. All the EO does is ask the CFPB, NCUA, and SBA to go through and look for instances of debanking and refer them for the DOJ to see if any laws were violated. The laws which would apply (if any of them do apply) are civil causes of action anyway, nothing criminal, so they'll get some fines at most.

ETA: the biggest thing the EO does is direct the FDIC to audit their directive letters to member banks to make sure that their list of "high risk" entities and businesses align with official DOJ policy and applicable statutes and are not politically motivated. For those unaware, the FDIC sends out what are essentially BOLO notices to banks to tell them what businesses and sectors are seeing high risk and potentially fraudulent activity so banks can monitor them and potentially deny services if warranted. Most of the time these are scumbags like payday loan shops, buy here pay here lots, or online casinos, you know, stuff that is obviously ran by scumbags. Under Obama there was abuse of this system which flagged some protected legal activity like political and religious organizations. Interestingly enough, it was obvious enough that OIG launched an investigation starting under Obama.

It has nothing to do with Greek society. I think you may be conflating the terms secret society with Greek life. Greek, in America, was seen as an academic language in the 1800s when most of these fraternities and sororities were established on college campuses. They would choose 2-3 letters to be their public name and then those letters would represent some secret that only its members know.

It's being sold to Paramount Skydance which is a media company that's run by the son of the CEO of Oracle. The free press also doesn't exclusively cover Israel. The CEO wants to position it as a right wing alternative to CBS news.

My question is why they're even investing in it, especially so much into it, when it's unsuccessful in terms of viewers. You would think they would fund a journalist that has better reach and reception.

I prefer Brave or Yandex for search engines, since they don't censor or push specific sites to the top like Google does.
