I've voted 1 month, not necessarily because I don't believe the job is legitimate, but because Adam absolutely cannot be trusted to complete the requisite planning to get himself situated.

He is a fail son that believes applying for a visa is the same as acquiring one. He still has 0 permanent accomodation and even plans to somehow supplement his income in a timezone far, far away and hope it won't have some catastrophic effect on his tax burdens (remember, he asked if moving to Japan permanently would magically mean all US debts are expunged). Until then, he's relying entirely on extremely tenuous "promises" made by people who have been put under pressure to house him. Any polite nodding will be considered permission for Adam to show up on your doorstep.

In terms of apartment hunting, even with the help of some well-meaning friend, as soon as the landlord gets wind that the name on the lease is going to be some stinky gaijin who can bail on their debts at a moment's notice, most applications will fall through.

Also, anybody who has ever attempted long-term international travel knows that even when the grounds on which you're applying for something are legitimate, it could still take fucking ages for an application to clear. That's before we even get into the legitimacy of this job.

If he doesn't wind up living in a manga cafe on a completely inappropriate visa type or just getting arrested/deported somewhere along the line for being a gross, groomer retard, I'll be astonished.

I think the job is a complete scam, primarily because he seems to have no idea what he’s doing. Time goes by quickly. If you were going to actually move across the world, you’d likely have your living situations at least somewhat solidified. Maybe that’s why he went to Japan so close to his presumed move date, but he’s a retard so it’s also highly possible he went to Japan to throw some money away before throwing even more money away by moving there.

If legit, I give it 6 months before he realizes how shitty it is to actually live in Japan. Weebs are so stupid.

Even though I had a guarantor and the job was guaranteed having passed all the interviews and everything it still took me almost two months to get the approval on my visa. And every year when I had to go back to get a renewal it still took about 6 weeks to get it.

Japan really doesn't fuck around when it comes to immigration.

The voting is missing the option that he will never even make it there which is the most likely outcome based on what we already see: that he is failing to make the minimum necessary preparations and that he is blowing all his spare time and money he should be putting towards preparations to play the new top of the line bing bing wahoo games and do pleasure trips to the country he is supposed to move to in a few weeks/months.

His Visa will be for a year, the length of his contract plus a day or two so he time to get it renewed before it expires. However, if you lose the job you're there for, you have 90 days (at most) to get a new one or you'll deported. The government would be willing to extend your stay as long as you're able to provide a roof over your head and pay for any costs of living there, but you need to be making an actual attempt at getting another job under the same type your Visa was given for (teaching english in Cheebs case). However, if that Visa expires before you get another job, they will deport you. It's always a good idea to keep your eyes open for another job in the same field if you're down there working. It's good to have a backup plan in case shit goes south.

I don't know what the expat scene in Japan is like these days outside of influencers but yeah, a lot of people had visa issues back in the day and embarrassing posts and videos about it (I think /r/japancirclejerk's old posts have a lot of discussion about this stuff saved but a lot of forums about it do not exist anymore). I feel like if Chibi wasn't so paranoid he would makes posts like that, but only his hardcore buddy trolls are getting the honour of hearing about his plans to try to get by using an inappropiate visa and then flipping out when he gets effectively deported.

I think he'll tolerate the isolation/alienation significantly better than the average person because even living in the US he barely leaves the house, plus he always has the Internet to pity post on.
