That's the kind of lie, like, a 7 year old would make up. What I mean by that, is it's a lie based on not even thinking of the immediate, short-term consequences for making it. Lying because you can reasonably suspect you won't get caught is one thing, lying even when it's obvious it will quickly be exposed as a lie? That's something people usually develop the executive function to avoid by the time they're out of elementary school.

I never thought I would ever feel second-hand embarrassment for the President of the United States, but here we are.

Trump's thoughts on war seem to be, "hit them hard and fast, to either eliminate the foe's ability to fight or to get them to the table". We've seen the former in his 1st term, now we'll see if his method can calm things down.
