Man! James must be really insecure because that wig sticks out like a sore thumb. Embrace being a baldy James. You'd be much happier.
i think its a obvious self deprecation joke?

He's funny and goes over the top stupid for bad games. The early videos were very well produced.

In this context "early" is like from 2006-11, and we're approaching the 20th anniversary of the Nerd.
i think the videos were good until the late 2010s or at least mid

I always wondered why Bimmy didn't lean more into the historian/retrospective side of things as the gimmick of yelling ass and pouring gravy on Mike wearing costumes grew increasingly stale over the years.

I can't be the only one that found my favorite segments of his older stuff were when he'd take a detour from the juvenile humor and sperg out about the history of whatever he was playing.

Granted, a lot of other retrogaming youtubers seemed to have had the same idea and ran with it (Jeremy Parish, Gaming Historian, and RndStranger come to mind, but there's a bunch of them out there nowadays) while James stayed mired in reliving his tropes, and by now it'd be far too late.

The Rex Viper shit will never not be funny though, whoever posted Rex Diaper earlier about killed me when I read it. :winner:

You want to know why?

Because Mike was the gamer, not James. Mike did the gameplay for the footage, Mike wrote the scripts, Bimmy sat in front of a camera and screamed.

James doesn't give a shit enough about games past 1989 to bother with being a historian.

The wig was the best joke in the video. Otherwise, completely unnecessary crap review that didn't need to exist. I didn't even finish it but I assume he brings up the Euro version runs better and has more responsive controls.

What's funny to me is that he steadfastly refuses to re-review games he dismissed as bad that are actually good. Such as Top Gun 2: the Second Mission and Nightmare on Elm Street. Top Gun 2 is fucking great and comes highly recommended if you like flight sims with arcade action ala Star Fox. Nightmare on Elm Street on the NES is not exactly a masterpiece but it's a good game. It has some flaws but it is fun and accurate to the films. I will defend this one till the day I die and James is just being a spoiled piss-baby if he refuses to acknowledge that these gams are legit good.

I thought he liked Top Gun 2 but hated the first one?
I remember them replaying Nightmare on Elm Street in a James & Mike Mondays episode. Wasn't that the game that can do four players? I think that episode may have had all four guys in it. They seemed to enjoy it.

I feel the same way about McKids. Many people assume it sucks thanks to his early review of it but it is actually a solid NES platformer.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on the NES isn't a bad game either. But why would James change his tune when he doesn't really know what he's talking about?

TMNT suffers from high difficulty and a few design flaws, but add in a few cheat codes and it turns into a good game.
I think it's really average with moments of greatness. Only 2 of the turtles are worth a god damn to play as (Donny and Leo because their weapons don't have dog shit range), bosses are too simple, the levels just throw more bullshit tanky enemies at you and by the end of it you just want to run past everything.

It's not horrible but it's not a good game. Cheat codes will not fix it. The only way to fix it is to do a full-on remake, which could prove interesting.

God, those swimming levels. It just ruined it for me.
But I loved most of the subsequent Konami Turtles games.
The Dam level is hard but not really bad. The trick is to use a shitty turtle like Ralph or Mikey and have them tank some damage and then switch to a good turtle. The game gets worse from there although fighting the Technodrome was a good if really difficult boss fight.

Technodrome is cool looking and yeah it is hard, but just finding it is harder. That's where I just have an infinite health cheat code on.

We're off topic now though. Do you want this thread to suffer???

Even better, finding it is totally randomized so not even a guide will really help you.

I beat it many years later via save states just to say I beat it and it was about as fun as plucking the hairs from my nutsack.
