Honestly, it rubs me a little bit the wrong way when people make fun of the idea of someone learning empathy at 35. It's NEVER too late to start doing better.

But Ian didn't learn empathy. He learned how to replace empathy with virtue signalling.

For example, in his Content Cop on ricegum, one of the points he made was how disgusting making jokes about a real person really raped on a livestream was, and how completely unempathetic and disgusting it is to apologize via PayPal. The jokes he made about raping ricegum were were more there to say, "see? It's not funny anymore when it's about you, is it?"

His criticisms of Keemstar were similarly empathetic towards others. A lot of the the things he criticizes are things like Keemstar responding to polite constructive criticism with hostility and insults, how he uses his large platform for personal grudges. How saying over and over that you "help" people isn't the same thing as actually showing them kindness.

I could probably keep going but I honestly don't remember a great deal of detail about them anymore lol.

My point is:

He wasn't a bastion of empathy, but he was empathetic enough towards others that it infuriated him consistently to see people be truly mean or cruel and not feel bad about it. He liked offensive humor, but had clear and understandable ideology about it ("either none of it's ok, or all of it's ok") and was clearly not trying to use his videos to hurt black people despite his use of "nigger."

But his latest Content Cop really seems to just utterly and completely devoid of empathy. He says again and again that he now possesses empathy where he didn't before... But who exactly is he empathizing with in that video? All I see is bullying, gaslighting, and virtue signalling.
