Stupidest part is he's justifying not working on the game by saying he's streaming 12 hours a day, as if he absolutely has to stream 12 hours a day. I doubt the extra income from streaming 12h instead of 6-8 hours is significant, especially when streaming too long will have negative impact on viewer numbers

It's not even a good excuse. What the fuck does "20% faster" even mean? Faster than what? A cache miss is a cache miss, it doesn't matter if it's an array or he's just new'ing every int he has, and something tells me there's no need to access any of the storyline bullshit sequentially (except for (de)serialization, which more or less only happens if you press spacebar accidentally), or frequently enough for any of the lolperformance bullshit to matter. Although who the fuck knows, maybe he's reading a bunch of values every frame to get a sweater color or some shit.

It's believable that Gamemaker's scripting runtime ends up running 20% more overall instructions when you access a value indirectly as the member of some storage class, rather than from a global array. But like you said, that difference is meaningless for something rarely accessed, like story flags. We all know the real reason isn't "teaching people to hack" either. He's just lazy.

He started making his walking simulator in Gamemaker without a design, and at each incremental step it was simply easier to just keep tacking on new indices at the end of the array.

He's an interesting case cause he's in a similar to position to many other streamers. Asmongold wanted to make a real wow news series on youtube the same month he really took off, so he quit his video making career and went all-in on streaming, and now he's not even a wow streamer anymore (tbh never was). This slimy faggot however still wants the one-up on other streamers by being a 'real dev', so he's not just gonna ditch the game, admit defeat and move on to be a streamer.
