I think it's two reasons. First, he's lazy and along with the laziness I doubt he has any burning comebacks to say that could possibly make it any better and he knows that.

And two, he and Anisa seem to think avoiding responses that acknowledge any hate makes it all go away. If they say nothing people will eventually move on and forget about it.

Plus, I wouldn't be surprised if he thinks he's now "in" with Hasan's crowd. This will be proven wrong when he can't get any further content out of associating with Hasan. But right now I bet Ian (and especially Anisa) are sniffing their own farts thinking things will really pick up for them now.
