About a year ago, I had "Nobody's Fool" by Kenny Loggins, from the soundtrack of Caddyshack 2, stuck in my head nonstop for a solid 6 months. No matter what I played or sang, no matter how much I tried to drown it in alcohol or smoke the monster out, it persisted. I wake up with a random song playing in my head pretty much every morning for some reason. Most of the time, it's a different song thankfully, but that Kenny Loggins thing nearly broke me mentally. My musical taste is pretty diverse - Megadeth to NWA to Air Supply to Modest Mouse to Grateful Dead for instance, so usually it's a pretty good mix of songs I wake up with. My mind is like a steel trap for lyrics too so I could wake up to a song I haven't heard in 20 years bouncing around in there. There's been a bit of a Debbie Gibson lean in here lately which is perplexing.
If I don't exactly remember the lyrics (I AM getting old), my weird-ass brain will try to auto-fill them which is also maddening because it is terrible at it. Sometimes it combines 2 or 3 songs into one. Sometimes it's not even a song - it's an unusual word or phrase, both also not fun. The number of times over the years that I've considered taking an ice pick to my eardrums is staggering.
Am I an idiot like Chantal?
