Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

Maybe you are bad at the games.
Completed 0 & Kiwami on Legend and isn't difficult if you know to dodge/parry/counter.
Yakuza 3 Remastered is maybe the worst of Kiryu's mainline. Game feels like a chore, even with the counters.
I never said anything about difficulty, I just said it's not a very good combat system. The game's quite easy but I look for more in a game. Its mechanically very shallow and doesn't seem to care much how you preform at it.

Physical goods is one of those things that everybody says they want, but most do not really want.
I agree and I also don't get the obsession with digital vs physical. If a game got too controversial MS or Sony could just update your console to make that disc unbootable. Even on PC, physical media decays. I've always thought the true preservation of video games is in piracy and emulation.

I never thought I'd say this but I think I unironically miss the washed out grey grimdark visual style that defined early 2000s games.

Games are way way too bright and visually busy now. I boot up a game and I'm blasted with neon, the vivid purple, pink, and baby blue pastels permenantly burned into my retinas.

Bit late but i liked RE6 as well. And i mean i really liked it. Story felt like pure jumbled fan service and i loved it. Mercenaries is fucking awesome too.

Fuck these guys though

They're especially fucking annoying in Ada's scenario.

This shit is the equivalent of zoomer editing in youtube videos. It's like people are afraid you'll turn the game off if something shiny isnt popping out at you every 5 seconds.

That's the issue I have with modern Gears of War titles (3 and 5) compared to the first two installments. The grainy, dull colors help sell the horror, dread atmosphere. All that color saturation takes away from the intended immersion.

Here's the original Gears of War.

Here's Gears 5.

Edit: same game as above, but this further proves my point.

Way too much color saturation and HDR.

It really does look like every other game now:

Do they not realize that even on the 360, desaturation was a stylistic choice?

It works perfectly for Cyberpunk 2077, but for everything else it sucks ass.

I'm convinced it's to appease the autistic gamers who game with their main screen while listening to podcasts and checking instagram on their phones.
The visual business is the gaming equivalent of jangling keys to a toddler.

That explains the microtransactions, loot boxes and celebrity "cameos."

I believe Call of Duty is indirectly competing with GTA Online since Online now is an open-world militarized MMO type of game. I know they're two different types of games and genres, but the appeal of them overlap between gamers.

You're right and they're not different games. Genres are a by-gone idea of an industry that had talent.
It wasn't long ago that everything was labelled 'RPG', but this was only because it was easier to ram in MTX and 'buying levels' when the idea is to level up.
Who the fuck levels up in an FPS?

Online is pushed because it's the easiest place to play on FOMO. If other players have the best bling bling wahoo items, it forces FOMO to niggercattle who NEED to buy the shiny shiny MTX.
Even single player games are forced to be online.

Realistic graphics, 60fps and above, and 60 hour games don't impress me. I have a pretty good pc, cost well over 2000 dollars and I'm not impressed with all the graphics and performance at all. I'm more happy about my switch since I can play it whenever I want (I almost exclusively play it at work, cause we have a lot of down time and no I'm not getting the 2nd one.)

All entertainment indirectly competes with all other entertainment. When I have free time, if I'd rather watch paint dry than play CoD, I'll do that.

Diablo IV has no single-player mode and no actual high-difficulty modes because MUH BATTLE PASS.

Sure. What I mean is that genres typically compete with each other (e.g. FPS genre; Call of Duty vs. Battlefield). That's why I gave that disclaimer. In this case, GTA VI will be a juggernaut for ALL upcoming video games around this fall. All this manufactured hype and fan anticipation, what video game would DARE release around GTA VI's launch?

My last two game purchases were Dark Forces (Remastered) and Boltgun; both of which are sprite-based FPS games with 3D backgrounds. I had as much fun as I would playing a regular 3D game like Halo or Metal Gear Solid.

The brightness and flashiness of today's games somehow makes Battlefield 3's blue filter visual style seem easier to look at in comparison. And some people REALLY hated that.

I honestly want to know which game was the Patient Zero to this. Even I'm starting to notice this too.
