This is a really interesting (read: weird and concerning) mindset to have. You are the sum of your past experiences, it should be a testament to your resilience that you are a person who survived trauma - that child did not die, they grew into you.

@thread BPD experts: is this common? Like is this a BPD thing (I know there's some identity/self-perception issues involved), or is this just nondescript lunacy?

Edit: what if the dead child she's referring to is her ghost-animeson?

@Hoi Polloi This is a common thing yes but isn't really a BPD thing. It's a romanticized recycling of identity. A lot of people with traumatic pasts no longer consider themselves to be that person; they're dead and gone. It's easier to bury a corpse than live with pain that will never heal.
