Agree. Just because they investigate doesn't mean they end up charging, but it does hint at some things.So if they're just taking a report, why are they (assuming he's telling the truth) asking him about tons of people, some of whom he's never even heard of?
Doesn't mean they'll do anything necessarily, but it sounds like a lot more than "taking a report."
The best reading for Nick is that all this stuff is beyond the capabilities of the locals and they figure Google is across state lines, bounce it over and see what happens. Maybe it dies there...
Or maybe it means they strongly suspect he shared private info, including banking details, across state lines and this goes federal automatically. Accessed privileged information is also problematic.
If they have him cold on that he will be seeing jail for at least 2 years due to sharing with multiple people.
Early days. It really depends how easy Nick made it and if they have records of the retransmission or cooperating witnesses.
