Considering everything that happened I think that is exactly what happened to Apollo Legend.
People edge him on after converting him from Billy Sweeper to Billy aLog and cheered because the lawsuit would surely see Billy defeated.

EZScape was pretty much Apollo's best friend, so EZ teaming with Karl and DarkViper to do an uninformed hit piece alleging he stole money to pay Billy with and refusing to give him a platform to defend himself was absolutely the nail in the coffin for Apollo.
It makes it even more disgusting Karl tried to use his suicide to pin Billy knowing full well what was the final straw for Apollo.

If Karl really went with a low cost lawyer to defend what was clearly a 6 digit settlement lawsuit due to the severity of the defamatory statement, then he is even more retarded then I realized.

I would really laugh hysterically if Karl could actually prove his claims, but was blocked from presenting evidence because his lawyer fucked up so badly it was not allowed.

His instructing lawyers were Mills Oakley, a large and successful national firm and definitely NOT budget. They are more known for commercial, but that is generally true of very large firms. As I've said earlier in the thread, there is a difference between saying 'it's reasonable to think getting sued, together with other stressors in his life, contributed to Apollo's suicide' and 'Billy Mitchell is a cheating bully who harassed a poor kid to his death'. Unfortunately Karl can't see the difference and is paying the price.

Edited to add: Figured I'd look up Billy's team as well. Smaller boutique Brisbane firm, barrister also a bit more junior than Karl's with no particular defamation focus on his chambers bio. So Billy had the slightly more budget team.

The Apollo case was settled out of court, Apollo had to retract his statements, apologize publicly, take down all of his videos on Billy, and refrain from talking about him ever again.

Apollo never had to pay Billy any money which is why Karl was sued in the first place (Karl claimed that Billy drove Apollo to suicide by demanding large sums of money from him, this never happened).

That isn't true though. Karl has made plenty of videos that talked about Billy filing lawsuits or threatening lawsuits over various other videos and claims.

If you only occasionally watched Karl it was not always clear which of his videos he was being sued over. The majority of the threats by Billy were over video game high-score content or other lawsuits he had filed against various other people. It is not unreasonable for people who did not follow the Karl story that closely to think the lawsuit is actually about Billy's highscores.

If you look over Karl's channel you will find that the vast majority of claims he makes about Billy going after him are about video game content, not Apollo Legend.
So yes, if someone had actually read the lawsuit details and taken the time to investigate it themselves instead of relying on Karl (and his friends) as the source for the information about the lawsuit, it would have been clear. But nobody did that.

I completely understand for VIEWERS to feel mislead. The commentary Youtubers are no journalists, they only consume slop and comment on slop. They could not investigate a Wallmart ad if they life depended on it.

The issue for Karl is that he forgot to actually prove that Billy caused the suicide.
A lot of people will know it to be likely true, but without proof to back up that claim its a retarded statement to make publicly without any "In my opinion" caveats.
And that is the only thing the judge is ruling on, because if Billy cheated in an arcade computer game is pretty much irrelevant for the "he caused a suicide" accusation.

No idea who thought up that retarded defense, if it was his counsel they should find another field of work.
I still cannot believe the judge actually ruled like this still, fucking boomer did not understand a single thing that happened in this case on the tech side.

Billy sues a sick guy without a job, destroys his income, guy commits suicide. Making the inference that the lawsuit might have caused that suicide should be protected speech. This is idiotic.

At this point I am not even sure if a US court would have ruled differently.
The statement is clearly defamatory, it fulfills the requirements even under US law, Karl was told it was wrong and reuploaded it, did not retract properly, did not apologize to Billy and like the judge says aggravated it further with his behavior.

Billy could not go after anyone discussing the case and making an opinion statement why they believe Billy might have contributed to the suicide. That is an opinion statement protected as free speech. I think it is reasonable to draw the conclusion that the lawsuit could have impacted Apollo in a negative way and contributed to his final decision. But that is very different that straight up claiming Billy hounded him to death and forced him into debt to cover a large settlement. To get out of that in a US court Karl would still have to present evidence why he had a reason to believe that claim to be true at the time it was made. He did not show that in this lawsuit either.

[EDIT] If all Karl went on was "they settled the lawsuit, so obviously he must have asked for a big monetary settlement", which is what it looks like right now, then he really deserves this loss.
