IMHO, wood stoves provide a much better heat than most of the modern solutions; it's a drier heat without the humidity of modern heating sources, which can be its own problem depending on the house. Just requires a little bit more work than gas where you just flip a switch and start sucking off from your local public utility (which is pretty affordable tbh, especially if you can just dump it on your credit card *wink wink a-logs*).

I guess it is possible though that maybe with Jim's health, the smoke might aggravate something? Can't recall if he's fully given up cigarettes or not.
