They come back though, if you have a food source they know about they're a pain in the ass.

A cornered animal is a different matter, if its trapped in a shed with you you're giving it no choice but to try to fight, even a rat will try to fight when cornered, but most critters don't want anything to do with people. Unless you're feeding them regularly it takes a long time for wild animals to trust humans enough to not just bolt at the sight of us.

My brother a month or so was awoken by 5 or so raccoons fighting in a tree next to his house for some godforsaken reason. He got his rifle because it had the closest available flashlight on it and he kept illuminating them until they scampered off into the night to resume their shennanigans elsewhere.

Nick ought to be careful if he does anything like that. Raccoon droppings have bacteria (I think it's bacteria at least) that can infect you with some terrible neurological shit. Not anything you'd develop overnight, but later in life down the line. It's transmissible through air as well. Those little guys already have it hard enough as it is, they have pretty high mortality and making it through the first couple years is a miracle for them without Nick torturing them.

What's funny is that even if he didn't say "aggressively monogamous" (was that from here?), he's adopted the phrase now - pretty sure he's used it more than once.

The myth that Nick "came from money" is frustratingly persistent. He didn't. While his grandfather and his father both had good jobs, his grandparents only came into serious money quite late in their lives.

After that point, Nick clearly had more options and Nick has told us that his grandfather was pleased when Nick chose to study law. It's not unreasonable to assume that Nick received financial help from parents, grandparents, or both during the time he was studying and he's said enough for us to know that some degree of financial assistance continued beyond that (apparently with conditions/expectations).

Nick's certainly not the first person to get a law degree and find that he hates practising law, and his temperament seems very ill-suited to the bread and butter work which pays the bills for the vast majority of lawyers. And he doesn't have the drive or experience to become a high profile defence lawyer.

Where he totally fucked up, though, was finding a niche which was bringing him in a damned good income and then throwing that away because he'd rather talk about other things than legal cases. While his income would have inevitably dropped as the number of legal streamers increased, a few of whom are far more interesting than Nick, he could have still continued to make solid money as a legal commentator.

I honestly think Nick just made up that story about the raccoons to try and look cool. It's a sheltered rube's idea of what an outdoorsman rough and tumble guy might have once done. Surrounded by hostile creatures armed with nothing but his limp bitch noodle arms and a blunt instrument, defending his homestead.

If he was in that situation he'd sooner beat the door with the hammer and flee than try to recreate a melee only Doom .wad with small wildlife. I think most people (myself included) would think along the same lines.

Now, the skunk drowning - that I believe. Initially think to passively and from a distance just eliminate it with superior firepower (not dissimilar to his approach to Montagraph). When that wouldn't work because it causes long-term problems, listily drag it over some water in the cage it already haplessly wandered into to, attempting to drown it. When you fail at that just keep brute-forcing the same lazy (also passive) solution until the problem just gives up and stops existing. Now that's the Nick I've come to know.

T. Guy who has literally never encountered either animal because I do not live in North America.
