Try 'Gate'. It's modern Jap military fighting medieval knights, using modern Jap military hardware. If you're into sports and such there's always stuff like Hajime no Ippo which is a boxing show. Redline was a racing flick and a fantastic feat of animation mastery that bankrupted a studio. There's all sorts of stuff just beyond the veil of the 'normie' crap (if you want to call it that; I couldn't find a better way to phrase it).
This feels like the inverse opposite of the world of Sonichu. Sonichu, at least from what I would remember, was somewhat racist, sexist and homophobic. Chris also didn’t want tobacco or any other stimulant in his world either.
I’ve heard of ‘Gate’ a few times in passing. It sounds amazing because I thought of something similar as a kid. Knights fighting army men with crossbows and catapults was something I thought was bad ass. I think I might give it a read.

Gate is a decent series but it sorta falls off after like the first three story arcs. At least in the manga/LN since the anime got cut short.

There's a similar series called Nihonkoku Shoukan, or Summoning Japan.
The Japs have a real chip on their shoulder after getting totally owned in WW2 by the Burgers, lol. When in reality they will be the ones screaming for America's help once shit hits the fan. It almost rivals how the PRC tries to wank off the PLA in propaganda movies like Wolf Warrior, but I'd argue at the very least the PLA did have feats post-WWII and they are self sufficient.

It becomes kind of a mess when its gets to the farm. Vagabond did the pacifist arc way better.
Give them a credit. At least these are homebrews, not UE/Unity/Godot based "demakes" requiring 10 GB of free space, 4 GB of RAM or the Internet connection

It was never that aesthetically pleasing to begin with. Personally i think 6th gen is where there is a much better balance of nostalgia + the games actually looking good.
