Alcoholics can also die from bleeding out since chronic alcohol abuse thins artery walls and--along with correspondingly high blood pressure--causes those artery walls to rupture externally in a fountain of blood via the carotid artery or internally via the thoracic or other major 'pipeline' artery. And then of course there's liver failure. However, all of this is probably moot if he's actually stayed off the sauce over the last several months in accordance with the state's requirements.
