I think there is a definitional issue here. Imo, even though these terms are kind of retarded, every "type" has both evolved and unevolved versions.

A true (evolved) alpha would be a natural leader and winner, which includes being "selfless, loving, responsible, emotionally mature, thoughtful, etc."

An unevolved alpha would be one that has no sense about context or who thinks that dominance = domination.

A sub-par or malevolent aspiring alpha would be a brutish asshole.

A true evolved alpha does not need nor require nor display selfishness and emotional volatility. They know when, whom, where, and why to cede or to push, and ceding appropriately is not a weakness.

Evolved betas also have emotional finesse but don't have a natural inclination to or don't aspire to lead as a base drive, though they certainly can when required or desired.

An unevolved beta is weak and incapable of doing what needs to be done, resting in ineffectiveness.

Nothing wrong with being alpha or beta; the key is being evolved.
