The endangerment charges are based solely on there being both drugs and weapons in the house where the children live and whether or not any of the children ingested cocaine isn't relevant to proving those charges. Nick may well be able to get drug test results excluded if the prosecution tries to introduce them.

From the will, Nick got no windfall from his grandfather's estate, as he (correctly) insisted. I think he said he got a small sum from his grandmother, I don't think anyone has bothered to get her will, but the purchase of the second home was made while she was still alive regardless.

Rich people generally don't want to have a huge windfall from a will because then it all goes through probate and, worse, gets taxed heavily. A lot of these trust things are to transfer wealth gradually to avoid huge single year taxable events and keep as much of that dosh as possible.
