I've heard in the past that, if asked to choose a number between 1 and 10, 7 is by far the most popular choice. Further, if I remember correctly, asked to come up with a random number or while lying, 3 and 7 are both suspect and more likely to be indicate deception, exaggeration, or a made up figure.

You really need a large sample for this and it's indicative of something like cooking books if the last digits (which should be essentially random if they're composed of a sum of other smaller insignificant numbers) tend towards certain patterns that wouldn't occur randomly. So if someone is literally just making up numbers off the top of his head.

The "important" numbers (mostly up front), will be telling a narrative. The insignificant numbers at the end will display unnatural patterns if being made up. PROTIP: if you're cooking books randomize those least significant numbers entirely.
