US McDonald’s debunks Trump's accusation that Harris lied about fast food work - Lying liar lies

Donald Trump's claim that McDonald'sissued a statement claiming Vice President Kamala Harris never worked for the fast food giant was debunked Monday.

The Washington Post reported that McDonalds denied making such a response to the Trump camp.

Harris has said that she worked at McDonald's one summer between her freshman and sophomore years in school at Howard University. Though a throw away comment by Harris, Trump has latched onto the tale — and repeatedly claimed it was untrue.

Over the weekend, Trump's campaign closed down a McDonald's in Pennsylvania to use it for a photo opportunity as he donned an apron and cooked French fries — apparently for his supporters in a drive-thru.

“We have checked with McDonald’s, and they say, definitively, that there is no record of Lyin’ Kamala Harris ever having worked there,” Trump wrote Sunday on TruthSocial. “In other words, she never worked there, and has lied about this ‘job’ for years.”

But the Post's Philip Bump called that Trump's " rhetorical jump", hitting the ex-president's conclusion based on lack of documentation of short-term employment more than 40 years ago.

Bump went on to compare Trump's claim to the following: "If America’s collective memory and documentation of its history suddenly evaporated, we could prove that Trump was never president, since no record of his having done so exists."

Bump said management of the "Golden Arches" isn't happy with the attention.

“Though we are not a political brand,” a statement from McDonald's says, “we’ve been proud to hear former President Trump’s love for McDonald’s and Vice President Harris’s fond memories working under the Arches. While we and our franchisees don’t have records for all positions dating back to the early ’80s, what makes ‘1 in 8’ so powerful is the shared experience so many Americans have had.”

The reference to 1 in 8 is to the number of Americans who have worked for McDonald's at one point in their lives.

"We end where we started," wrote Bump. "There is no reason to think that Harris didn’t work at McDonald’s in 1983 and ... every reason to think that Trump’s suggestion that she didn’t is offered in bad faith and without evidence. "

So him saying she never worked there is "debunked" by a statement from McDonald's saying they never told Trump she didn't work there. Double negatives are doing a lot of work here.

It's up to the person asserting the claim to prove said claim. Kamala has never proven the claim, therefore, it remains BUNK.

That's not a denial/debunk by McDonalds that she lied. They're saying she has "memories" of working there, so how nice for her. Politician claims memories, news at 11.

In other words, they know she's lying but don't want to openly make an issue out of it because they get better publicity by staying as neutral as possible.

Does anyone expect employment records to exist from over thirty years ago in a restaurant like that? As for taking a picture in uniform: why waste the film on something as mundane as that? More than 90% of the restaurants I've worked at no longer exist. My resume is filled with dead ends. And the only time anyone has ever caught a pic of me in coat is during a relaunch where the press was invited. It can be construed, from lack of evidence, that I did not cook for twenty years, at all.

The IRS unless Harris is a tax cheat

I want to be a brain surgeon. I know there's no evidence of my "medical degree" or any "specialism" in "neurology" but I totally worked as one before in like the 1980s.

Having worked in various restaurants for years, I can also confirm that there are almost certainly no photos of me having worked at those restaurants. I'd imagine the IRS has some records of it, but they're not under any obligation to provide that information, as far as I know, especially not just to curious journalists.

Harris would have tax forms and such on her end she should easily be able to request and produce if she so wanted

For a summer job in 1983? That she's somehow schlepped around for 40 years just in case the IRS comes knocking?

I think she's fulla shit and she never worked there but this is a silly argument.

McDonalds corporate doesn't own the majority of McDonalds restaurants in America. They do franchise deals for most of their locations so in order for them to even know if she ever worked there they would have to dig up 40 year old employee files (that were probably never digitized) from some random franchise that might not even be open or run by the same person anymore.

Lol. Lmao even. "There is absolutely no proof she ever worked there, but McDonalds never said they were sure she never worked there. SO TRUMP LIED HE IS A LIAR ORANGE MAN BAD REEEEEE!"

It's worse than that. Trump claimed they said they had no records of Heels Up working there. WaPo's big gotcha is McD's saying they don't have complete records from that time period. That is, they confirmed Trump's statement.

What they have done is taken Trump's follow on "In other words, she never worked there..." inferring that Trump said McD's said that. Problem is he didn't. He accurately stated what McD's have now confirmed and drew his own conclusion from it. The whole "n other words" is a bit of a giveaway that he wasn't attributing that to McD's!

This is really slimy and disingenuous but sadly predictable from the propagandists like WaPo.
