Because it is. Not for you or me, of course, but fearmongers and cultists alike are no more intelligent than a simple language model.
Horror story: when I was in uni, a few of my classmates and I were talking about LLMs and their impact on software development. Two other people were freaking out about how it's going to take everyone's jobs, and I made the mistake of trying to calm their fears by explaining that it's just a really big text autocompletion engine. I was shocked to hear one of them say "But, isn't that how people think? We just hear previous words and our brains determine what word to say next!" He then went on to deny that anyone has ever come up with anything: since inspiration comes from outside sources, no idea is Truly 100% Original™, therefore creativity does not exist at all.
It's one thing to know that a lot of people are just organic automata that do not have any consciousness or agency, but it's another thing entirely to witness that fact firsthand. Maybe they're right to be afraid. Silicon-based LLMs are entirely capable of replacing carbon-based LLMs, even though they're harmless to actual people.

Dude I have legitimately wondered if there are a huge amount of people that are just not sentient. Entirely pattern recognition and reaction with no qualia or 'ghost' inside. I mean, I've never believed animals are actually sentient (especially now that we have the hindsight offered by having AI today that utilize entirely deterministic systems and computing do things Turing probably thought was impossible.). So how much of a stretch is it to say that there are some people who are merely flesh automatons? They sure act like it lmao
Edit: I even just came up with a term for it: Human Animal, as opposed to Human Being.

Maybe it's because I am not technicaly an artists and work as a programmer, but I just like posting my art for people to use however they like, and I don't really care if it is ever given to an AI model (though it is very unlikely)

It’s neat that non-General Artificial Intelligence is doing cool and cutting edge stuff like this.I heard there's like whole types of ai whose sole purpose is to create optimized shapes for certain items.

Gen AI to me is a bit dubious in its current state. I feel the time might come but it’s might not be what people expect.
As I’ve said before, AI is a tool to assist humans. Not to replace them. Non-Assistive AI to me seems to be born exclusively out of spite and greed.
It still generates an optimized shape, the difference is that it is trained off of physics simulation and not of human produced data.

So much of this goes back to main character syndrome and an inflated sense of self-worth, and ironically, that capitalistic/libertarian sense of protecting your own property at all costs, for as much as these types of people decry capitalism.
If AI could somehow reach across the internet and render your cute puppy pic dead, that would be based. But it doesn't and can't. No one is coming to steal your art. If your art is trained on...first off the model will get worse, because you're not a world class artist who everyone wants to imitate. But secondly, any impact you have will be so minuscule as to be nonexistent. A vague thought of something you once drew will inhabit one tenth of the decision making process in deciding the color of one pixel somewhere. That's what's being "stolen" from you.
I thought you wanted to engage in the broader community, let others see what you drew and inspire them and contribute to the wider culture. If you didn't, why did you post your art publicly in the first place? "Look how great I am, but don't you dare learn from my style?" Why would that be a laudable attitude?
Also it's wild how all the zoomers are so careful to say "un-alive" and other euphemisms but when it comes to AI they become 2000s-era chuds who just bluntly say "kill AI artist."

Speaking of conspiracies about NPCs and Sheeple we have a new post from our favorite subreddit, r/escapingprisonplanet in which a few lovely folks explain their theories that AI is part of the New World Order’s plans to keep us trapped away from becoming divine beings and how this is the last chance we have to escape the world we’re imprisoned in before we get hooked up to robots from birth and made into a hive mind.

And some lovely folks in the comments explain how we need to keep our vibrations up so we shift to a new timeline where the Earth ascends to the 5th Dimension and we all become spiritual light beings in some oneness light thing. Some in particular explaining how eating food, listening to music, and having allergies will make you too low vibrational to go the timeline where Earth ascends to 5D and beyond. Others explain how AI exists to trap souls here and how r/collapse is totally right and how Climate Change will kill us all in 10 years

Ugh.
The videos regarding the sentiments are all the same, man. It's either an incredibly surface-level understanding of how AI works or the same "KILL THEM IN THE MOST GROTESQUE WAY POSSIBLE!!". It's all so tiresome. As usual, many problems are presented, yet no solution. Only incredibly emotional and gay responses and ending everything with an execution method you'd probably hear a cartoon villain or a cartel member bring up, depending.
You're not going to die as an artist. You're not gonna die as a 3D artist. You can continue doing what you love without looking at AI as if it's gonna become the new dictator of the world. Please, stop being dramatic. Your days as an artist aren't numbered and your art being trained, if ever, will probably not even be noticed by little to no one unless you're a popular artist that people will make a style LoRA out of.
Remember, if you're giving up as an artist from a bunch of noise, that's a you issue, not an AI issue.

Meanwhile... The reality is quite disappointing.
AI is not literally extracting images from a specific artist at a specific time frame, all in real time.
The "hacker guy" would have to train a white puppy LoRA from that specific artist, and for that, you'd need A TON of white puppy images made from that artist, not just one.
If you're a "literal who" (in the sense of having multiple consistent images), there's literally nothing for you to be worrying about.
They shouldn't be worried about their stolen art since most people would not spend a minute or two of their day just to train a single LoRA.
I can't tell if they don't know any better, or they think that's how image generators will work in the future if "regulations" don't pass.
