There are other factors that can lead to high blood pressure. Having a certain build (being tall and lanky as well as being very muscular for example) can raise your blood pressure. Maybe he likes to pretend he's just that much of a beefcake. Even though he's also a totally fit (half-) marathoner who really shouldn't need blood pressure meds.
Another type of "certain build" that will lead to high blood pressure is being a big fatty fat fat. Like Patrick. His blood pressure is high because he's fat. Simple as.

That's quite true, but I strongly doubt that was his reasoning. That distinction is too subtle for Fatrick. I think his initial thought process, if that's the term I want, was a frantic search for some excuse to deny the truth of the matter. He went with the first thought his 1.2 GPA brain came up with. He's terribly afraid of having to come up with a second thought; any single idea in his head will probably die of loneliness.

this is indeed a fascinating & widespread phenomenon, one i have also noticed. in a LOT of author pics in crime fiction, lowbrow thriller or "hardboiled" detective novels in particular, the blobby schlubby middle-aged white mutt author is wearing some humiliating combo of leather jacket / sunglasses / fedora / goatee and stanced up like he's a bad-ass. in some cases they're even hardstyling next to a motorcycle or holding a rottweiller on a leash etc.

i agree fatrick is an extreme example of this, but it's weirdly common. maybe it's insecurity or compensation because at some level they think writing is a sissy-boy way to make a living? idk

Lee Child, who writes the Jack Reacher books, is a pretty good example. He always talks about how many fights he got in as a kid and how his favourite move was headbutting people, but it's clear he's never actually headbutted anyone, because if he had he'd know it was a fucking stupid idea that nine times out of ten hurts you more than the person you're headbutting. When he has his protagonist do it in novels he never even mentions the guys own head hurting afterwards or anything that would make it slightly credible.

I was literally about to say this. I notice also that Lee Child has the same skin, hair, and eye colour as his protagonist, so I think Reacher is just his dream version of himself. Taller, stronger, irresistible to women, and skilled in fighting to an unreasonable extent. I don’t mind watching that kind of shit it my brain is all worked out for the day but I’m not sleepy yet, if you get me. However, it is definitely ego porn.

Pat would be a legit compelling writer if he himself were a character he'd created. He shares that quality that Trump has where his use of english is so idiosyncratic that, regardless of how you feel about the guy, it's genuinely enjoyable to mimic his style.

The entire breadth of what Pat is can be understood by witnessing the briefest exchange between him and another person, but he has nested depths of retardation that keep him compelling to study for the long haul. Most lolcows followings have the air of a secret shame cult, where you have to study a lot of lore to really get into following the lolcow, and it looks bad enough to the casual observer that nobody wants to let people they know IRL know that they are into it. Like imagine trying to explain why you follow KingCobraJFS to anyone irl. Nightmare scenario.
