Of course we are portrayed as nazis. Even when we are on the "same side", they still cant help but letting us know they still hate us. Then again, the feeling is mutual.

I always found adopts to be extremely idiotic: you're already paying an artist, just come up with your own design is not that hard.
I hang out with some artists and the topic of adopts comes up often, everytime it is about how well and how much they sell meaning people are still buying.

I never got the popularity of protogens myself; seriously, why not just make a cyborg? Would be more unique than... whatever the hell a protogen is supposed to even be.
Also this race; can someone explain why Sergals are so popular? Genuine question.
You expect furries to care about realistic anatomy? Like @toskarinion and @Quindarius indicated, it's a fetish thing; the only thing furries really care about. Probably a snuff fetish thing, if I might add my two cents, though voraphilia is more likely.
But being creative is hard! It could get in the way of the typical furry's countless daily wank sessions.

People on dumb art sites love branding, and they love getting to cite singular great "creators" of stuff that already existed. How many of them cared about skeletons before 2015? Or pastel ponies before 2009? There's probably someone out there who thinks Spyro was the first dragon ever.
If you say "lizard bird" it means nothing, but if you say "yinglet" then OMG I COLLECT YINGLETS. Even kobolds are trendy now despite not looking any different than basic anthropomorph lizards of ten or more years ago. That took me by surprise since I was accustomed to them being little wolf people, and I had to be told NO those are GNOLLS, they are the MORTAL ENEMIES of kobolds, according to extremely boring people.

I genuinely believe at this point most of it just 'hehe weird animal is hot' because I never, ever see people who genuinely care about the actual cool lore behind a lot of these species. The creators make all these big concept art pieces about alien worlds, plant life, different creatures that roam around these planets and their cultures - and then a furry just says 'hehe vagina tentacle : )', grabs it as a character, slaps a bunch of neon colours on and then put it in the most generic modern-earth setting in a dance club or something.
That and, yeah, people who like collecting characters like trading cards rather than actually fleshing them out.
It's pretty sad seeing the actual creative parts of the species get ignored completely and forgotten over time.
(This is also why I'm partially sympathetic to people with closed species. I know 99% of them is just 'pay money to get a design and join the cool kidz club vwv', but I imagine there's creators out there with awesome, lore filled stuff they simply don't want any random person to get their grubby mits over and ruin.)

I... think this requires context. As I mentioned, I'm not really familiar with sergals; all I know about them is that they're EVERYWHERE in the fandom, to the point where I think they might be the fandom's unofficial mascot race. Didn't they come from a webcomic or something? What's the lore?
