Speaking as a comparative "normie" in these matters strangely enough, Rekeita had more of a basis for credibility; long long ago.

Rekeita had his lawsplaining the interwebs thing actually going through real cases. He explicitly didn't overclaim - "small town Minnesota lawyer" and whilst he always had an opinion (on everything!) he maintained the distinction between what he thought the law was and what he thought it should be.

Barnes on the other hand just appeared as if by magic with people (mainly himself) telling everyone how great and important he was. I still can't name a significant matter he was involved in that has led to a successful result.

This is separate from the later request he made for the court to seal the ordinarily public records, which would require a finding of exceptional circumstances by the court, and Nick wanting the records to be sealed so the truth couldn't contradict the lies he tells on his show does not sound like a relevant exceptional circumstance. Maybe he got lucky though.

It is also worth noting that the body cam footage was provided as discovery to Nick/Kayla in their SEPARATE CRIMINAL CASE (see quoted post below), though possibly also duplicated in the CHIPS case, who knows:

Just fyi re: discovery. It's a catch 22. If you don't agree to discovery, not only will the court allow it anyway in almost every case, but it will also make you look like you're definitely hiding something.

Caught up on the MATI segment and my thought is: Nick thinks he’s doing good defense lawyering to sow doubt. In reality, to any layperson, he’s just making himself look untrustworthy.
