Iiirc Baal just means lord- assuming this refers to Baal Hadad or Moloch? Not sure of the difference.

It has a lot of meanings connected to the sense of a divine lord or master, but it pretty clearly is referring a lot of the time in 1 and 2 Kings to a foreign divinity. Though it's really linguistically complicated and also appears in ancient Syrian languages and in Arabic, it's very clear that Ahab's prophets worship a foreign deity.
