Wouldn't the implication in your statement here be that your sexuality isn't an aquired trait but an intrinsic one? Which is contradictory with the fact that gay people are many times more likely to have been sexually abused as children.
There's also an abundance of research suggesting that certain genetic factors
do contribute to the development of homosexuality. Identical twin pairs are
almost twice as likely to demonstrate same-sex attraction in comparison to their non-identical counterparts, and the finding that gay men tend to have more senior male siblings is so commonly replicated that it's been termed the "
older brother effect". Although I wouldn't
entirely discount the increased rate of SA among gay people, the truth is that most of us, like most people in general, grew up in stable two-parent homes without a history of abuse -- there are a handful of fags in this very thread who can attest to this.
In My Humblest Opinion there are too many confounding variables in play to definitively label homosexuality as being caused solely by genetic OR environmental factors. It's plausible that being diddled at a young age could affect a child's psyche and cause their sexual compass to point in a different direction once puberty hits; I don't think that applies to the majority of cases, however. Ask the parents of gay people and many of them will tell you that their child was a flaming faglord/dyke from the get-go (albeit probably in gentler language).
If that's not the implication, then how would exposure to pornography be wholey incapable of affecting one's sexuality when it is otherwise very capable of warping their sexual desires, and other negative sexual activity and exposure like abuse is clearly capable of affecting sexuality?
I said in my previous post that I think porn can in fact alter someone's sexuality -- I just don't believe it's capable of
fully and irreversibly switching someone from one team to the other, so to speak. You claimed yourself that your homosexual feelings went away after you quit porn, so I'm not even sure where the point of disagreement is here.
Abuse that happens in a person's formative years is different, and could theoretically screw with someone's sexuality for life, particularly if it happens before they develop the capacity for attraction; conversely, people don't seek out pornography until their sexuality is already somewhat established. If you muddle up your patterns of arousal by looking at gross pictures on the Internet, you can lay off the cooming and things will (eventually, more or less) return to normal. As a fellow zoomer I've personally known a LOT of straight guys who were introduced to porn at an early age, some of whom claimed bisexuality in their teens, all of whom ended up exclusively seeking out women later on. That doesn't happen to True & Honest gays.
I forgot people on the Farms hate fun and whimsy, my bad.
