What I'm guessing happened is they put him in cuffs, questioned him, realized Channing was a scorned ex that was making shit up, and Sam sweet talked them into uncuffing him on stage for the publicity.

Bernstein seems like he was definitely the catalyst to all of it, but Im sure part of it may have also been Sam making enemies at Adult Swim and simply being hard to work with, as evidenced by his Porsalin interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwvgDXfBxic where he discusses sexual relations with some crazy producer that locked him out of an editing office in an attempt to sabotage production, and Sam alienating the marketing people to such a degree that no marketing was done.
