Why wouldn’t older siblings look after their younger siblings. Older siblings take care of their younger siblings all the time and have been since the caveman days.
There’s obviously a limit to it, like don’t go on a week long vacation leaving your kids at home and have the oldest one take care of the younger ones the whole time away.

I sort of agree with you. A 16 year old should be able to cook, clean and do laundry. For the vast majority of human history (99.99999% of it) 16 was the age that girls would be having their second kid & boys would be going on their second war party/ campaign.
Even 8 year olds had life or death responsibilities, if the kid did not weed, or water the plants, or feed the live stock, gather food on a daily basis, then the family had a decent chance of starving to death.
Children have also proven remarkably resilient throughout history. Before 1900, the chance of dying before age 5 was 25% to 50%. Most humans that have ever existed grew up seeing imediate family members die, they grew up with only a few pairs of clothing (if they were lucky enough to have more cloths then what they were wearing), killed and butchered animals regularly from an early age. Most people also tetered on the brink of starvation or could die any day from disease or violence. Life was simple brutish violent and short.
Even with all of that childhood trauma, people were still able to invent a huge amount of technology, found civilization and build great empires.

All of that said, we no longer live in those times and Nick is a degenerate Cokefiend for not taking care of his kids, or at the very very least teaching them the skills that they would need to look after themselvs. Nick was a spoiled trust fund babies and it looks like he raised his kids to also be clueless trust fund kids.
 
To be fair to Barnes, if I were in seriously deep shit and needed an absolute wacky Hail Mary to stand a chance, Barnes would be one of the top at the list.

What Nick needs is a calm, rational lawyer that will get him to understand that his best chance here is to work out a good deal.

Just for shits I sent an email to the Spicer, MN Sheriff records department requesting to "inspect" the body cam footage from Rekieta's arrest. According to the state of MN's government website there is no fee for "inspection" only copies of what you are requesting. I'll update when they respond.

Per Aaron, Kayla has expressly denied that. However, I think if he was really into it we would've seen him around. Drexel is like a low-level airport employee and it isn't like he actually raises his daughter. He's a deadbeat. He has been relatively absent throughout the entire Imholte arc.
