This is just how drug laws work though, you cant get arrested for having done drugs in the past. You could share videos of yourself snorting coke a year ago and not be charged for doing cocaine. You get charged with possession or under the influence, etc.

Signal is end to end encrypted, the messages are not stored on the server. The only way they can get the messages is from one of the devices involved. You can also set a groupchat to have messages delete after a set period of time, eg. 3 days, 7 days, etc. It's possible to archive messages from your device (eg. to preserve records for FOIA), but it isn't exactly straightforward. I doubt Aaron knows how to do that.
