I've played guitar for a very long time and I decided to pick up piano. I mostly want to use it to play with synths or do some jazz chord progressions for music. I have no desire to do recitals or play classical pieces. Pretty much just want to know enough to be dangerous. Should I get a teacher or would online classes and youtube be enough to get the two handed dexterity i need and to learn chords?

I'm a piano teacher. If you're explicit with the teacher upfront, recitals and classical shouldn't be a problem.

The reason we use "classical" is just ease of access. There's a shitload of it printed, and we know which ones can accomplish what task. Like if you're too lax, and slurring your notes, I might recommend Bach, because his articulations are very clear, and the baroque tone is,.well, almost anti-slur. And classical music is a catch-all term, when a good teacher might know to properly cut up their eras, like baroque, romantic, etc. There might be one you like in there.

here's a technique headstart: relax your shoulders

Working with a professional is almost always the best way to get better when it comes to music. If you can afford it, even if its just once a month or something, go for it.
Thanks. I googled around too and this was the most common answer. I guess i'll shell out the money for a weighted keyboard, lessons arent that bad.
